Ok treblet, ta - will do....

I've done some research and found that apparently the 16v 1.4 and 1.6 engines suffer badly from the tappets varnishing over. This increases the noise from the engine, especially when cold. I've bought some Wynns Hydraulic Tappet fluid and hopefully this will solve / reduce the noise issue. I'll update this topic either way....

Hello Tom, I've noticed the exact same thing only a couple of days ago. I need to find a product to sort the rust out and I would advise you to do the same rather than just cover it up. If you're missing a part see if LupoBoz can provide it. Just PM him on here... I've bought a few things off him and he's excellent. Let me know if you find a decent product to remove / prevent the rust. Nick

Has anyone found a reasonable method / company that can remove a key scratch that some arsehole placed across my Loop GTI bonnet, f/o/s wing and door.... Chips away and similar won't touch it as its too large a job apparently!

Suffering from tappy engine sound on my Lupo GTI: Has anyone had their tappets / valves replaced? If so, what's the damage on your wallet? Any other suggestions to the cause of the noise?

Thanks for your ideas Yellow.... On a slightly separate note.... Has anyone here, paid for their lifters to be changed? Did it resolve the tapping sound? How much would I be looking to pay for the task?

So I've purchased an '02 GTi which has been left untouched other then some nice coilovers. I have yet to sort the alignment out but I've replaced brakes, discs, tyres, cam and pump. I'm not particularly happy with the sound of the engine still but put this down to tappets. What do people suggest and recommend I do to give the engine a little more punch and refinement? Suggestions and costings please peeps.
