  1. im on 107K and rapidly increasing as i do over 600 miles a week commuting to work and back.
  2. Lamborghini Miura. Simply one of the most beautiful cars ever designed
  3. Id imagine so. 18's would be too much and a little to Max Power for my liking
  4. it shouldn't work, like said above but it does. I'm pleasantly surprised! a set are going on eBay for around £500.
  5. ps they are not AMG, they are OEM mercades wheels and people have just put AMG center caps on them
  6. they are called Mercedes Segin wheels also known as 6 slot tear drops 18x8 inch
  7. cheers, hopefully things are starting to come together now. Its a bit of a pain getting the ball rolling as i want to do everything all at once, ha.
  8. OK guys, upon deciding what wheels to go for and whether they would fit. I used a Tyre guide calculator and came up with a number of options. I also noticed people were asking about the same type of wheels and if they would fit. Below is a quick Photoshop of how a variety of wheels compare to each other and should give you a better understanding if they will fit or not. Simple to read, provided some annotation. Enjoy. Tyre sizes Original VW wheel 185/55/14 Banded Steel 175/50/13 Minilite 145/60/13 Weller 175/50/13 Wire 155/55/14 Porsche teledial 165/45/15 These may not be the tyre size you want but good enough for you to gauge. The image is a little small on this forum so if anyone wants the full A4 size one just ask.
  9. what colour and condition is the bonnet?
  10. how much for the two decent 14" Nankang tyres delivered to coventry? as your other two may as well be thrown away. Thanks John
  11. PS If you wanted to know who had the lowest VW out of our old meet then he is the result. Sorry about the size of the picture
  12. so for anyone who is interested, here are some pictures of my previous VW's My 1983 Mk1 with a 1.8 16V GTi engine conversion ( i was big into the rat look/ couldnt care less look) Then i started to care and got myself this and restored her; 1989 Mk1 Karmen Clipper 1.8 Gti in the mean time between both of those cars i got myself this beauty that i picked up from London for free and drove it home with only 2 gears (3rd and 4th) If i needed to reverse or turn around i had to get out and push. (gear linkage had snapped) 1985 mK1 Cabby 1.8GTi, the engine was mint and only done 40,000 genuine miles Owned by an old lady for who couldnt afford to pay for two parking permits in london so this never got driven. Lots more pictures of all the cars should anyone want to see more. Thanks, John
  13. It's a 52 plate and yes all the history is for the car with this engine. Had cam belt done last year as well with all receipts and invoices there. It seems like it was a decent car before rear ender. I work for a consultancy in Oxford now but before I worked at Aston Martin and then Recaro in Germany designing luxury chairs for high end cars
  14. I have just found/enquired about a 2002 polo GTi that is being broken near me, The seller has said he would give me everything i need for £495 bar the gearbox as apparently he said it was on its way out and needs a recon. The car has done 85k and has a good amount of history. Im not familiar with the value of these so is this a good deal? Thanks, John
  15. added price. Steel wheels and offers of around £100 i think is fair. I would be happy to meet someone half way as long as its not to far. But i wont be traveling solely to you. Thanks
  16. have any pictures and whats the spec for them?
  17. Does anyone have or know where i can get hold of the Polo GTI manifold dimensions? or could someone scan in exhaust manifold gasket so i can take exact measurements from that? Thanks, John
  18. i haven't really done anything at work today other than just looking for parts/ engines etc. So far i have managed to get myself; -A K03 turbo of a Audi 1.8t with adapter plate and oil feeds. -An inter cooler off a 225bhp Audi TT (suits due to the fact its efficient and compact) -Adapter plate off the same turbo I was overjoyed as it cost me next to nothing due to knowing the guy so a great result. As you know i was toying with the idea of turbo converting my 1.4s then after CasperGTI gave some friendly advice i thought about a sport but with all the hassle after looking into it with swapping the looms, clocks, immobiliser etc i thought i may as well go the whole hog and look into a Polo GTi engine due to the fact it will be the same amount of work. Now im in no rush to get the Polo engine as i want one that is low mileage and in good order, but i dont want to pay over the odds too. So while I'm waiting i will be fabricating the manifolds, mounts etc as i have access to a pipe bender and am a dab hand at the old welder. First order of the day is to model up a Manifold plate so i can get the machined and source some tubing. Im going to be using titanium tubing as i can get that ( believe it or not) at the same price as stainless. So once the manifold is complete it should have a nice unique finish to it. If anyone is interested ill put up the CAD model of the manifold plates and other parts that i may choose to machine in the coming weeks.
  19. This looks awesome dude. Took a look at your website to and its very impressive. You should design your own car next i can tell you, you will feel a lot more of a sense of accomplishment when you see it in 3D Well i know i do when i'm at work.
  20. Bugger, i didn't know the 75 differed from the 100 like that as well. Think i may as well chuck a sport engine in then if i'm going to have to go through the trouble of a bottom end swap. Id go the whole hog and do the Gti, but they are a lot more involved and expensive. i don't quite fancy all of that stress, lol. So a question you may be able to answer easily John is if i remove the 75 engine and replace it with the 100 as well as using its ecu and manifolds. do both engines use the same engine loom and plugs or will i have to use the sport loom and run that instead of the 75? Will it also be a straight swap utilizing all of the 75 ancillaries such as rad, water, fuel lines etc? Thanks for the advice on the ECU and oil feed, it will be very helpful once i get the sport engine in place.
  21. While i am awaiting for the above parts. I have been looking into either turbo charging or super charging the engine. Although i know a straight engine swap would probs see me with more BHP (1.8 20vt) i dont have the space to do an engine swap neither do i want the added weight across the front axels. at least with a turbo/ s charger conversion i can keep the block in while im doing the conversion. Im leaning towards the turbo route mainly due to needing less parts and costing considerably less ( researching through some of the guys on here with chargers) Making a custom exhaust manifold isn't a problem for me so that reduces cost dramatically once again. Initially i do not plan to run too much boost so one question i have is will forged pistons and conrods be needed for sure, or will it be safe to run standard internals for the not to distant future as costing around £800-900 for a set of custom forged pieces i cant quite afford straight away. Another question i have is regarding the oil for the turbo; My plan it to use a T piece and take it from the original oil sensor / pipe and route it to the turbo but im not sure about routing it back into the sump. Is it just a case of running a tube from the turbo to the sump and welding it into place. (sounds bodged by ill do a neat job obviously) My last question is about the injectors and fuel regulator; I will need bigger injectors, but im unsure as to which i will need or are best suited? When the turbo spools it increases the air flow so naturally fueling needs to match, is this done by the custom ECU (which i know i will already need and a remap) Does anyone have any recommendations of which ECU to use? I plan to use either a KO3 or KO4 depending on availability ( chances are it will come from a 1.8 20VT anyway as they are easily sourced and cheap to buy both brand new and second hand) My list so far; Turbo with W/G and adapter plate Custom Exhaust manifold Turbo to exhaust custom pipe Intercooler Dump valve Piping; - Inlet to Intercooler - Intercooler to turbo - turbo to air filter Oil pipes Decompression plate Larger Inhectors ECU/ remap ( unsure on which i need) Forged internals; pistons, conrods ( unsure if i can get away with not needing them with minimal boost) If i have missed anything off, will you be kind and let me know Thanks, John
  22. The images need to be taken from the same angle otherwise when the wheels are super imposed onto the car it will look wrong. So you can at least get a rough idea though;
  23. Unfortunately you will never see a model provided in either Max or Maya being used to produce A Class surfaces that all major car companies use for concept and production models. All concepts set for prototyping or production are taken from raw alias files/models (models that are built in house from scratch) then they are sent to a team who work on A class surfacing (lining up all cv's individually; literally thousands of them) once this is done then they may then be sent to out sourced companies to be solid modeled so tooling can begin. I know this because i used to work at Aston Martin and have a lot of close connections within Jaguar/Land Rover, Bentley and Rolls Royce where designs were in fact modeled from scratch. Often things such as brochures, pre release shots, animations etc will be outsourced as there isn't enough time in most cases to do things for these and can require a different skill set (such as what you do DarkStryder360) Suppose my main point is; What do you want to get out of the CAD modeling and ultimately what job do you want to do at the end of it all Horses for courses and all of that!
