  1. i am just trying to do the same now got no lock for about six months justbought kit off eay from ideal car parts. but lets face it when its off ebay it is a gamble if it is of good quality. i have been fiddling and swearing for three days now trying to get the spring in properly and reassemble barrel i am on the verge of taking it to the garage this is something i try and avoid but i know even if i sort out the barrel fitting it back is a pain too cause of the ring that holds it tight in the door but may try your circlip idea. ho hum lindylou
  2. EPC quite right break light not coming on simple fix try first just lubricate the spring that is supposed to move whenpedal depressed itsometimes gets stuck this is why it can be intermittent hope this helps lindylou
  3. hi linseylou now can i ask if the engine warning light you refer to is EPC. because if it is then you are barking up the wrong tree. lots of us have made this mstake in the past.EPC stands for electronic pedal control. it refers to the brake pedal. when the light is on it is warning that your break lights are not working. the brake pedal has a spring which is moved when the pedal is depressed the problem is usually because the spring has got stuck and just needs lubricating.you can check out this by getting someone to watch if your lights come on hope this helps lindylou.
  4. look at info in archives could be coolant temp sensor exactly same thing happened to mine new one for 7.50 sorted it out good luck
  5. it might be potentionometer had this problem on my old golf. the thing was giving the ecu wrong info and so it kept trying to adjust the revs hence the irratic realy bad reving even when accelerator pedal not used .check if this was changed as it is part of the trottle body assembly hope this helps.
  6. thank goodness for archives had problem with engine not starting when hot and engine appeared to be flooding judging by the smell when it did start, then either stalled straightaway or revs raced on their own. so changed plugs air filter etc and was just at the point of going to garage thinking must be fuel injection problem and thats going to be expensive! when found thread re coolant temperature sensor so got one on ebay for 7.50 nothing to lose right? it did the trick amazing!!! and now running much smoother. so would like to say a big thankyou to all members who take the time to post info cheers lindylou
  7. pedal box failure is a well known fault and this should be replaced full stop ,if not it will need doing so factor that in when buying. the roof guttering design can cause corrosion usually under the rubber so check this carefully. the body work is galvanised and came with a twelve year warranty, paint only three year warranty against rust .if any corrosion is visible i e wheel arches i would think thats possibly due to a ding or stone chips i live by the sea and this usually is a factor in early corrosion but my lupo has absolutely no corrosion and is a 2000 reg.
  8. Hi guys I too have had malicious keying on my yellow 1.0 w reg. I keep it in the garageovernight now my son in law is a panel beater his advise it is ok to touch it up with a tiny brush just letting the paint fill the goudges but the big issue is the colour match if it is not 100% perfect it will look dreadful and as all my panels are damaged that would mean a whole respray !!!! I am going to an auto paint mixer to get as best a match as possible hope this helps

  10. am so grateful for info found on site had warning light epc didnt know what it was or what to do i followed advice it was electronic pedal control realised it was brake light pedalswitch was all set to fit new one cost tenner following instructions from members but when i pushed up spring found it had only got stuck works perfectly now would not have had the confidence to touch it without help from members postings thanks all. i have a brill yellow lupo took me three months to find yellow seats of course only 54000 miles 1.0 litre goes like a rocket though
