  1. Hi When I turn sharply left (generally at low speeds) I get a knocking/grinding noise comin from the front. I took the n/s drive shaft out on sat hoping it would be the outer cv joint but it appears to be the inner one (the joint wont slide back and fourth smoothly) Are these east to rebuild? and could anyone tell me how to do them or suggest a place to have it rebuilt? is it worth doing both sides and the outer cv joints whilst doing it? Thanks in advance Jon (02 Lupo 1.4)
  2. Cheers for the help mate, I've bent all the inlet valves :-( I think I've tightened the main tensioner anti clockwise instead of clockwise so when I started it, the timing has gone out :-( anyway I'm back on the road now :-) Cheers again Sands
  3. Tonight i took the belt off and redone it from scratch, put the compression tester on and got 130 on the first cylinder, tried the next cylinder got 0, so tried the first one again and got 0??? Really confused?? Any ideas? Woodruff key maybe? Cheers
  4. Yeah I thought that (i just bought it) so tried it in another car and it works fine Cheers
  5. Phew nice one :-) Yeah I put a compression check and got 0 on all of them, it didn't even move. I lined the chamfered cog up on the crankshaft with the right hand side notch on the engine case, And I put 8mm drill bits into each of the holes on the cam shafts, it was a bit fiddly but they seemed to line up just nice? And I set the tensioners as the diagram How do you post pics and I'll put one up to see if I have done it right? Cheers again
  6. It was in the oil filler cap, nothin in the dipstick and coolant seems fine Cheers mate
  7. Ah I see ill go redo the timing belt :-(, I found some white gloop in the oil, would that be part of the timing too or something more sinister? Cheers
  8. Checked the timing a couple of times and pretty sure it's right, the chamfered tooth on the crankshaft with the right hand notch and 2 drill bits in the camshaft tensioners set, if a valve was bent would it affect all 4 cylinders? Cheers
  9. Hi Been havin problems with the car juddering so after changing allsorts decided to do the timing belt, water pump and tensioners. Went to start the car up after and it is turning over but nothing else happening. I have fuel and spark but 0 compression on all 4 cylinders. The cylinders turn so not thinking woodruff key?? Not sure what to check or do next any help would be appreciated Cheers Sands
  10. Got to the starter motor tonight, had to take off the throttle body, inlet manifold etc to get to it and when I got it out I found out the new one I had was the wrong one lol So I'll try n get another one tomorrow and give it another go :-( Cheers Sands
  11. Hi probably a silly question but...... how do you get to the starter motor to remove it? from the top its tucked away nicely behind the inlet manifold from below the drive shafts make it tight to get too. so im guessing remove the inlet manifold? Cheers Sands
  12. the day is going from bad to worse the juddering is still getting worse and cleaning the injectors hasnt helped :-( the passenger wiper decided to break, under the scuttle panel one of the pivots have came apart, i tried to pop it back in but havent managed and didnt want to force it incase im missing something? should the pivots just clip back in together? Cheers Jon
