  1. Hi, As I'm a poor student, I serviced my GTi myself today after the 'oil service' notice came up on the domoeter. Changed my oil with carplan 5w 40 as it was recommended by the motor factors (if anyone is adament its crap and I've used the wrong one, I'll treat it as a clean out batch and drain it again with what should be used) . I also bled the brakes and replaced the fluid with new dot 4 fluid using a gunsen easy bleed kit (the one that connects to a tyre for pressure in the brake system). The question I have is that now that I have done this, the brakes feel different, I wouldn't say they felt spongy as such but they do seem to have more travel on the pedal whereas before the pedal felt very hard, as if there were little servo aid. Is this normal after a fluid change or have a stuffed something up? :S. There's no air in the system for definite as I ran nearly a full bottle of new fluid through the system before closing it out. Cheers, Ryan
  2. I used to have an old mini. It would over run because of the fuelling from the carb - did it more in the summer. The basic cause is that excess fuel or gasses are ignited from the heat already in the block after it's ran for a while. Not certain what could cause this in a modern fuel injected car though...
  3. so if it is attached to the engine and the engine is earthed......why earth the gearbox?
  4. AA guy says its yet another dodgy alternator....just luck of the draw.
  5. no it hasnt. AA guy said that the last alternator was knackered so it was replaced...if this one is knackered too I have no idea what the F**K could be causing it. Think ill get it fixed and sell up
  6. new alternator...dead again around 1 week later. Very sick now after thinking that lupos were reliable. What else could it be?
  7. slightly crazy considering my 1.2 polo S on a 52 plate was only manufactured 1 year after. The interior felt so much more robust and better built. I didn't have a single problem in two years of ownership. The only thing that needed to be changed was the block temperature sensor which was £14. I have already spent a hell of alot more than that repairing the lupo
  8. I have a similar one in, Alpine. Cost £160 from what I remember, its pretty basic on first appearance but I believe Alpine are the only company that actually offers proper full speed software integration of ipods and iphones. It also has the option of adding a parrot bluetooth unit to it which is hidden away and integrated into it's controls. I think it looks really neat and OEM
  9. no idea. i think new....fitted 23rd march 2009 so should b ok. does the garage that fitted it need to do it though???
  10. Anyone know why an alternator fitted only a year ago would pack in and need replacing already?? It was fitted under a year ago by a garage in Windermere in the lakes. Issue is, if it's under warranty, how the hell do I get a knackered car over there to be repaired?
  11. I have a polisher but it's not amazing. If I wanted rid of it what kind of compound would I use?
  12. Silver GTi spotted near the business school this morning. last letters are SUB
  13. going in on wednesday for a full geometry setup at John Pye in Bishop Auckland. £80 for a full setup. How high is a standard lupo by the way?
  14. Woke up this morning and there it was lying in the road, metal frame snapped in two, dangling from the door. Got a quote from VW tonight...£130. Any cheaper suggestions / know anyone selling one? It's the drivers side for a GTi (black, but I could respray it) Thanks for your help
