  1. I rather like it! (Apart from the bridge - "all up in the interweb!") Wikipedia suggests they're from South Africa, but it feels French to me...
  2. Well, it's getting closer. What I can't work out is: We were told first that it would be rear engined on an all-new platform. Then we were told they were shifting to the Polo platform to save costs. So, if it's just a re-hashed Polo, why the ventilation slots above the rear number plate? Equally puzzling is what looks to be an air-con condensate drain hanging down at the front which implies front engined. Unless this is the electric version, where the air-con (in an electric car?!?!) could be running off its own motor in the front with the drive motor in the rear (they do get very hot, which would explain the vents). Another thing that makes me think it's on its own platform is the wheels only having four bolts... But the stub axles on the rear wheels pretty much means front wheel drive (to me, anyway)... Who knows.
  3. The Last Supper concept's been done before and it's been done better, viz: Youtube Video ->Original Video
  4. ^^ In a heartbeat. Although split bumper versions like that just don't seem to exist anymore. Would settle for the big bumpers, though...
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sIqRiQVmeA ^^ "It's a pretty specialised vehicle" No **** sherlock!
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85jfBxQP4ZI ^^ MOT = bonnet!
  7. I've seen that. From memory they had to move the firewall and the driver's seat *way* back into the car to make space. No bonnet, of course. And Jag XJ220 wheels, if I recall. It ran at Goodwood a couple of years back...
  8. I've seen it before but thought it was some student project... Just can't see how the idea of driving like a prat, knocking a girl out as a consequence and implying to her friends that she's just given you a blowjob would really appeal to the typical Polo driver. Esp. when you consider that most of them are housewives...
  9. Last year it had new rear dampers both sides; all new bushes up front plus new wishbones and ball joints, new rear discs, and a new nearside inner CV joint. Quite a lot seemed to go wrong all at once... I guess the cambelt will be the acid test. If I bring myself to get it done, then I'll be keeping it... I'll try to squeeze in a drive this weekend. But this "weekend" is yet another that I have to get certain things done for work. They really are taking the piss, but they know there's nothing else going and I have an "hours as necessary" contract (no overtime)... I *do* love winding it up, though. The weighting of the steering, with all the feel through it and the brakes. It's so much more of a driver's car than the VRS. And it's got to the stage where people are starting to notice it on the road - there's so few Lupos in good nick left, let alone GTIs... But I am itching for something rear wheel drive...
  10. Not sure, it's only done a bit over 35k. It's in excellent condition. Black, on an 02 plate.
  11. I'd *love* an X1/9. Have wanted one since I was about eight and saw a split bumper version on holiday in the Isle of Man. I recall being in the Fiat dealer when my mum was collecting her Fiat Uno in 1989 and watching a young couple trying out one of the very last Grand Finales... I also know of two film appearances for the X1/9 - DARYL, where one being towed backwards on a tow-truck (irony!) was used as a ramp, and Disaster on the Coastliner (that took some googling!) where one is on display in a train station foyer only to be hit by a train running off the end of the tracks...
  12. On the other hand, my daily has done almost 50k in 2.5 years... And, no, I *really* don't want to sell it. But it's 5k or so tied up not being offset against the mortgage (when you get old, you worry about these things...) Heart says no way. But head is starting to get too loud...
  13. Well, I had never planned to sell her, but this year's MOT brings home the fact that I only did 355 miles in the last twelve months. My workload over the last year has just been horrendous and the Lupo was my escape from it all; but it's obvious I'm just not getting the time in for the run outs. I had my line manager breaking my balls for two hours on Monday, so the workload isn't going to go away any time soon... What would you guys do? I'm basically paying £1 per mile just for insurance. Which is ridiculous... She required about £500 of maintenance last year, and this year the second (year 8) cambelt is due. That will bring cost per mile to around £3, ignoring deprecation (appreciation!) and notional amounts of fuel... Just don't want to sell, though. But this situation makes absolutely no financial sense...
  14. Weren't the very last blue ones Laser rather than Raven? I seem to remember that...

  16. It's been ages since I posted in this thread, but I think you guys will like this... Anyone read Gibson's ("Pattern Recognition" ) because this is lifted straight from the plot of that book. I'll not spoil that novel, but the ending was not what you would expect... Anyway, here is the last.fm summary: And here are all the videos so far: http://www.youtube.com/user/iamamiwhoami Of which, a couple of extremes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILsGD9jx7NE The more "beats-orientated" ones do sound more like Fever Ray than any of the other suggestions, and the imagery (surreal such as it is) is right up their street. Anyway, I'm a sucker for a viral campaign, and this is a good one...
  17. I think they look *awesome* But then, I would

    I have a rock

Really strange morning. Just couldn't bring myself to take her out for a spin. Head was full of "what's the point?" thoughts. Still, took her out, sorted out the tyre pressures. Let the ECU find a new idle (because its memory is gone from being deader than a dead thing). Then... ... took her out and *immediately* fell back in love. Compared with the VRS: okay, it's slower, but the heaver, weighted steering; the way-better feedback through the suspension and the seat of your pants; and the noise! I'd forgotten just what it's like to get power from revs rather than torque. After letting her warm up, there was a fair amount of "enthusiastic" driving, in the hope that the ECU will learn that new style... Anyway, fun times!
  20. My babies: You'll find the GTI bombing around the southern side of Glasgow and the VRS anywhere in the central belt...

    Arosing

It is rather nice. Just needs a set of the black plastic G60 centre caps to set it off.
  22. This is me, trying to learn how to use my old dslr on manual. I did my best, but they were moving quickly and I was trying to get a manual focus...

    I have a rock

battery is completely dead - as in open circuit dead - the mileage isn't even displayed in the dashpod it may have been flat for a couple of months or so. I guess they don't like that I will check the charger on my other car (unfortunately no jump leads) but I recon it's going to be new battery time ad it can't be good to sit empty like that I wonder what will happen with the immobiliser?! the rac guy can sort that out (even if it means towing it to vw) this car is getting expensive with things like this. it's due its cambelt this year as it is four years since the last one. in all that time it has done about 7 thousand miles. maybe I should sell it. been having that thought too many times this winter. then I'll drive it and the though will be gone...

Was really looking forward to getting her back out, too...
