  1. ok cool thanks for that. So what have you done with the standard cable, did you remove it all or just leave it in the car unconnected from the speakers? Thanks
  2. Hi When changing the stock speakers to a set of components, what does everyone do with the stock speaker wires going from the stock speakers to the wiring adapter attached to the headunit? As I'm guessing people install new, better quality speaker cable from an external amp to the new speakers. Do you just leave it all in there, or cut it out? Cheers Jamie
  3. Hi everyone, I've started a few topics recently about an ICE install im planning, but just realised i've got something else I'm not sure about When wiring component speakers to an external amplifier, speaker wire goes from the external amp to the crossovers, then speaker wire from the crossovers to tweeter and door speakers respectively? is that right? Does this mean you just leave alone the original speaker wires which went to the headunit from the speakers? And also just leave the old speaker connections in the headunit wiring loom? i.e not tamper with the original wires at all, or should they all be removed from the headunit wiring loom and the car completely? I'm not sure if i'm over complicating the process of installing component speakers powered by an external amp, have been looking at wiring diagrams and trying to get my head round it. Any help would be much appreciated
  4. nice one, think im going to go for that pack. I'm in East Kent, so pretty far from you by the looks of it Just seen your install thread mate, looks good, did you have to take the underdash panel off to fix the crossovers there? As that seems like quite a good place to put them.
  5. Ok thanks for that jabbles21, Just been looking around and found this pack: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/hertz-energy-pack.html Seems a really good deal, as you save about £100-150 compared to if you bought them separately, what do people think? Just need to add a pre-made sub box, a dynamat kit and a amp wiring kit and I think that's it!
  6. Hi everyone, I'm finally getting round to buying the rest of my I.C.E setup, got the headunit already, Pioneer DEH8300SD, just need some advice on the other parts: 1)Component set for front doors max £150 fan of decent bass, smooth midrange and unbright tweeters,(heard from others that Focal tweeters are quite bright?) also won't be doing anything fancy with tweeter mountings, just hoping to sit them where the original ones are in the dash. 2)Subwoofer max £150 want to still be able to use part of the boot, so only looking for a single sub, probably a 10", though 12" is the biggest I'd go! Can't choose between an active boxed one, or buy a separate sub and pre-made box(not going to make my own). Not looking for massive db's from it, just a some extra thump for the Dance/DnB/hiphop/RnB stuff i listen to. 3)Amplifier/s max £200 I don't know whether to get 2 separate 2ch amps to power the components separately to the sub(if i dont get an active sub), or just get one 4ch and run it all off that? I'll be dynmatting the doors and maybe boot floor so allocating £150 for that inc all cables. So if you guys could post links to any equipment you'd recommend or give any advice I'd be grateful Cheers in advance
  7. Hi everyone, Am still planning which bits to buy for my audio install, will be a component set, Dynamat in the doors, 4channel amp and a subwoofer in the boot to go with my pioneer DEH8300SD headunit. I am on a budget and as a result can't buy all the stuff at the same time. So thought I would buy the sub and amp and install them, while I save for the new speakers to go in the front along with some dynamat. So firstly was wondering if anyone knew the specs for the standard speakers in a 1.4E, such as the RMS power handling figure, as obviously wouldn't want to blow them as soon as I connect them to an external amp instead of the headunit? Secondly, could I set up the amp (will be a 4 channel amp) to just play the bass frequencies below a certain point, leaving the door speakers to just do the midrange etc? Which would hopefully put less strain on them as they havent got to do both low bass and midrange, and clear up the sound a bit? I know this can be done with after-market components, just wanted to check it could also be done with the standard speakers. Thanks in advance for any opinions
  8. ok cool thanks for the help people, will no doubt be back soon with some more questions . Actually heres one, have people had any good/bad experience with inphase equipment (speakers/subs/amps) as there seems to be a lot if it around at good prices and with good reviews from other owners. I only ask as I hadn't really heard of it before, and i was thinking more along the lines of focal/alpine stuff before i came across it. Thanks
  9. Hi everyone, I'm currently saving up for some sound upgrades in my Lupo. looking at new 2 way component speakers (replace the factory door speakers and tweeters)), dynamat door kit, subwoofer in the boot. Ive just bought a Pioneer DEH8300SD head unit which is sounding and looking good now. Do the tweeters count as separate 'channels' from the main door speakers. As in would a 4 channel amp just power the 2 door speakers and the 2 dash tweeters, meaning Id have to get a separate amp to power the subwoofer? As it would be the 5th channel? Probably a really silly question but hopefully one of you guys will help me out. Thanks
  10. thank you for the help, going to buy some fuses tomorrow. Could blown fuses also be the cause of why my centre console lights (heater etc)dont show up in the dark? And maybe even why the central locking doesn't work, as I have to open the passenger door either from the inside or from the outside with the key, ie the unlocking the drivers door doesnt seem to unlock the passenger one. hmmm damn fuses
  11. thanks that sounds promising, how do I check them? By 'cheaply' do you have a rough idea of a figure? Thanks again
  12. Hi everyone, After fiddling with my new head unit (Pioneer DEH 8300SD) trying to sort out the muting problem i spoke about in an earlier post, it now doesn't want to turn on at all. I took it out to look at the wiring on the back, didn't move any of them, then put it back in and it wouldn't turn on, no lights or anything. I tried putting my old headunit back in to see if that one would work, but no luck with that either, completely lifeless. So now I've gone from a partially working cd player to a completely silent one. Can anyone think what might be the problem, considering I'm having the same outcome with both old and new head units? Wish now i'd paid a professional to install and set it up for me Thanks Jamie
  13. Hi everyone, I just bought and fitted a Pioneer DEH 8300SD to my Lupo, and have been busy setting it up how I want it. But when driving along (not when the car is stationary) it keeps coming up with MUTE on the screen every so often, and when I press the Mute button on the fascia it doesn't seem to unmute it, I just have to wait for it to start playing again. This is mega annoying as part of the reason I changed the last headunit was because when playing CDs (never the radio) it would randomly skip and pause tracks, and this seemed to coincide with going over bumps in the road. Do you think it sounds like the wiring is wrong? Any opinions welcome Thanks Jamie
  14. Hi everyone, My Lupo didn't come with mudflaps, is that normal for E trim examples? As my sister's S trim did. So i'd like to buy some, anybody know where to get them? Would that famous auction site be the best place? Also I don't know if this is possible, but can you buy and fit the chrome dial surrounds that GTis have to non GTi models? Thanks Jamie
  15. Hi all! I passed my test on 30/12/2010 and have just got my car, a fantastic example (well i think so )of a 2000 Lupo 1.4 16v in Black. Something I really liked about the car when I first saw it was the half black/half red seats, I hadn't seen that on a Lupo before and thought it looked really cool. The car came with a Sony headunit, but it is obviously a few years old as only has CD playback..no ipod/USB etc. So I'm already planning on replacing it with another more recent one form the likes of Sony, Alpine or Pioneer. I also plan to upgrade the door speakers and tweeters, as although they are fairly decent for standard kit, I know they can be greatly improved upon Also to retain the (limited) bootspace I'd like to add an underseat subwoofer. I have about £600 to spend on that lot, so if anyone reading this has any recommendations of kit they've got or have heard, it'd be much appreciated. Also I won't be doing the work myself so thought I'd buy the parts and ask 'WeFit4u' to install them, anybody had any experience with them? My sister's first car was also a Lupo, another 1.4 16v from 2004 in S trim, so currently they are both parked next to each other at home, it makes quite a good picture . I will add some pictures when I've taken them, do they need to already be on a website such as flickr etc to be inserted? As it says I need an URL to add images? Thanks for reading Jamie
