  1. Thanks for your help guys, I'm thinking about doing the brake pedal switch myself- Is it an easy job? Are there any DIY guides on here/the net? Cant really justify £100 for a £10 switch and 2 mins fitting....
  2. Thanks a lot for the help guys. Have spoken to several VW specialists who think its unlikely to be related to be the map sensor, however the VW dealer has run the vag com apparantly, so unsure. If the main issue was the throttle body, how come the idle in neutral is fine, but coming to a stop it stalls? Are you sure the brake switch is £5?? I have had quotes from independants of £30 incl fitting and the VW dealer quoted £100incl fitting.
  3. Have recently had a "servo repair kit" fitted by a VW garage to fix the problem of brakes not functioning properly. Firstly they haven't replaced the whole hose, just put a larger diameter section with clips over what I can assume are the cracked ends. Is this correct? I was under the assumption that it was a whole replacement hose which was needed as opposed to just a bit of larger hose and clips going over the cracked parts? Since picking the car up, the brake problem has been cured however I now have a several other issues. The car now stalls when coming to a standstill. This happens not every time I am coming to a stop but maybe one in three times. Also the brake lights do not function at all, even when the car is running-whereas they did before the VW dealer touched it. The car idles fine when it is started and left in neutral. I unplugged the battery for approx 30 minutes as I heard that doing this resets the ECU. This helped somewhat as the frequency of stalls was not as high but they still occurred. Took the car back to VW who have had it for 2 days and are now saying that the car needs: - cleaning of the throttle body - a new MAP control - Brake light press switch coming to a grand total of £492. Am slightly reluctant to pay as the car went in with a brake fault and now needs almost £500 worth of work. Are these the correct parts needed to sort out my problems? How come the car worked perfectly (apart from the brakes) before hand and now needs £500 worth of work? Finally if I removed the hose surrounds they have added to the vacuum pipe will the brake lights work and the stalling end. Finally (stupid question) are they charging way too much for these parts and labour and are they all really needed? I have my doubts about this dealer considering they asked for £86 for the servo repair kit + labour (no new hose just a wider part held on by clips where the cracks were), when I heard on here the parts are £20 worth and it can be fitted in 5 minutes. Thanks in advance 170
  4. Should the cost be nowhere near £86? They quoted for a servo repair kit?-is this anything more than the basic pipe which needs to be replaced? Its a 2000 1.4 Sport. thanks 170
  5. Has anyone had any luck getting the pipe replaced free of charge, if the car is not built between 98 and 99? Seems silly considering my 2000 model has the same brittle plastic pipe that the recall cars have.. Dealer quoted me £86 for a servo repair kit is this correct? Thanks 170BHP
