  1. your a card, you are. hope you have the same luck with your lupo. We have been usiny 'indy' garage. Been stringing us along telling us its all ok, lucky i did take it to vw. i would rather pay 1 large amount than spend twice that over a period of time keep getting minor repairs on the diffrent issues. was told only clutch adjustments needed, p box ok, obviously not though. just dust clogged brake, also a fib. Sorry fella but your comment is far from helpful, i need a recomended sunroof repair centre by a genuine lupo enthuiast. im asking because i dont want to deal with any more dodgy so called indy garages and after the other repairs prefably not vw, although thier honesty is second to none. PLEASE GENUINE REPLIES WELCOME ONLY FOR SUNROOF ISSUE.
  2. hi all, my partner and i are proud owners of a sweet yellow lupo. However today we were quoted a little over £2000 to have it repaired. It is having a new pedal box, clutch, i dont get this but brakes most major parts front and back, apparently £300 for frt and the same again for back, yet just had them done and told was just lots of dust causing rubbing noises. Also new window screen wiper motors. the car is currently with VW and they have dropped the price to £1650. Initially we took it in as the sunroof is leaking due to perished seal on glass. Not aware of any other problems apart from wipers and sunroof this is a bit of a shock. After the bad news we were told that the sunroof cannot be repaired by them as it is aftermarket, i dont get this either, it has had a sun roof all its life. Do vw use another company to fit all thier sun roofs !!! Anyhow after the repairs we are still left with a leaky roof, can anyone recommend a repair centre for getting the sunroof seen to please, also i know VW will charge a premium price but does £1650 for a pedal box, clutch, brakes back and front and front wiper motors sound way too over priced ???
  3. £1650 for new ped box clutch, brakes, wiper motors, so not a happy chappy

  4. i just spoke to a local franchised vw garage in Twickenham about the pedal box in some respects i felt cheeky asking if this would still be covered on a v reg 1999. I guessed the answer before he confirmed it, NO. The information the chap had was a 5yr warranty on that part. I then mentioned the little bubbling i spotted on the lid near the gutter. He replied its only a 10 year over my manager has a v reg lupo too. However we are welcome to pop past and let there spray shop manager have a look at it still and he can give us a verdict. I then called the vw customer help line, the 0800 number, by the way a big thanx for posting that number. I was told there is no actual recall for the pedal box and because all vw garages are independent good will gestures seemed to vary on loyalty to your local dealership !!! So the age old saying, its not what you know, its who you know !!! I told him about the 8 years or mileage policy and he was unsure of the mileage limit and then dismissed it. He then confirmed 8yrs was the limit for the age of the car. I'm not surprised about the NO given to me on this issue on a near 11yr old motor. Regarding the roof, it is a 12 yr warranty as long as the car has not been in an accident or had any other body work repair but yet again it is down to the the independent dealership that you take it to upon inspection. We have had a mobile mechanic look at the gear issue and he has told us a new clutch has recently been put in and someone has knocked/moved ( i cant recall exactly the part he mentioned). then done some minor fiddling, told us i might still need a bit of adjusting but its better. He was right it was better but only for a few days, he is coming back this week to change the cam belt so we will tell him it needs adjusting again. Should i trust the mechanics verdict of just minor adjustments or mention the peddle box issue to him ?
  5. hi, thanks for the welcome, we may have to hold fire on the the wheels at mo, from reading the threads i believe our poor lupo needs a pedal box and whilst giving it a good wax n polish yesterday i have found some bubbling along side the gutter on the roof. Our luck this year with cars is getting really sour.
  6. hi there i'm another new member although its my better half that is the new owner of the bright yellow 'lemon'. Already needing a bit of advice too. We have both already owned modified cars in the past and have kind of steered away from modding and are just happy to keep things as original as possible while still maintaining the good look factor. This is however our 1st VW. Initially the Lupo is in mint condition and been very well loved, no rust (at all), wears a V plate and totally factory finished. I have noticed the nearside has had a spray but it does blend extremely well !!! The front badge had been poorly sprayed black? I resprayed it again properly and resprayed the wiper arms, took the gritty plastic interior door lock pins off and replaced them with some chrome ones to match the interior chrome door handles. Luckily it has the grey seats without the yellow centres, i feel the yellow is loud enough without any extra help, lol. The Mrs wants a yellow gear gaiter though ( i shrugged ). At some point we would like to buy it some new alloy footwear as it is currently sitting on the factory fitted 13" steelies. I was wondering if there was any sound advice out there, without any modding, ie lowering, suspension stiffening etc, which size rims and tyres can i get away with replacing the steels with. thanks
