  2. The time has come to sell my 2001 Lupo GTI. I’ve owned it for about a year and it’s been a great little car. It’s covered just over 115k and has service stamps up to 94k with the last service by myself in March this year. The car benefits from having both air conditioning which still blows icy cold and a 6-speed gearbox. It is lowered on FK coilovers but will also come with the original GTI suspension, should you wish to change. At this ride height I have had 4 people in the car with no scrapes. The interior is clean and tidy with no rips, tears or cigarette burns to the seats or headlining. 2 months ago I replaced the alternator with a remanufactured unit from GSF, this also comes with a 2 year warranty. The car has 12 months MOT. It failed on a steering rack tie rod and headlamp aim. Both of which have been sorted. As retested, it passed with no advisories and comes with a new style MOT slip. It also comes with tax until the end of November. On purchasing the car I fitted 2 brand new Toyo 15/195/45 T1R’s to the front and these are still virtually brand new. The rear tyres have around 3mm tread. The profile is the same, I am unsure of the make. The price is £2500ono. Obviously this is quite cheap for a GTI, especially a 6 speed with aircon. There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is I have already sorted its replacement so it needs to go. Secondly. There are a few minor niggles with the car. A weekend’s work would see it perfect. I’ve driven this every day and it’s been faultless and would continue to use it but should list the faults as to not miss lead anyone.   Drivers side window is a bit lame, ideally needs a new motor It doesn’t have a GTI bonnet, just a stock black one. Door cards are loose but come with brand new clips to replace Plastic engine cover is cracked Starter squeals Airbag light stays on Engine coolant light stays on (engine stays at a steady 90 degrees so I think it’s the sensor) Few stone chips on the nearside rear wheel arch that have gone through the paint Apart from these items it’s a reliable good car.   4. Thanks for your help guys. I have vagcom (the basic version) but haven't got round to using it. I thought this was the case and can't imagine the mot centre being able to do it. I also thought about washers too! I'm glad I'm not the only one with the pikey approach!
  5. Hi guys, hope you are well. After some advice if poss. My GTI has just failed the MOT because the headlamp aim is too low. I feared this would happen as they arent even level and pratically pointing at the floor! I had a search on here and adjusted the headlights using the plastic adjusters till they wont go any further. Unfortuantely the get a little bit higher but not really very much. Anyone got any ideas, I was thinking of taking the headlight out and apart for investigation. Any help much appreciated, thanks!     Sweet looking silver gti going under the bridge towards the radleys about 1.240 today. We were in a gold Vaux Viva.

  12. I can understand how going from a new car to something with a few niggles would give a sense of dread! I was exactly the same last month. I went from a very nice BMW E46 to a 'needing a few jobs' Lupo GTI. I spent a few days debating if i'd done the right thing. All I can say is, despite the few issues the car puts a massive massive smile on my face. Not only that, it seems to get quite a few admiring glances from passers by and is such fun to drive. I'd like to say it's like a modern day Austin Mini but that might divide the crowd! All I would say is the issues you have don't sound major and by the sound of it you could just live with some of them and the rest are easily fixed. The fact you've got a lupo gti will more than make up for them!

    Black GTI

    Spotted a very nice looking black GTI at about 2.00pm this afternoon. Did give the nod of approval. I would of tooted my horn, but it's broken!

  17. The hoses can colapse inside so it acts as a sort of one way valve. Visually, I don't think is much indication on this. Check for twists and kinks. I would start by taking the wheel off and removing the caliper, give it a good clean and grease up the sliding mecanism. Check the piston dust seal, you might find this has popped off and the piston has corroded. If this is the case idearly it will need to be rebuilt. Rebuild kits can be had for about £20 iirc failing that a recon caliper shouldn't be too expensive. You might get away with just a clean and a grease up though. Once clean and greased SLOWLY press the piston back into the caliper. Bare in mind this needs to be pressed in squarely. Also, if the piston is corroded badly then it might rip the caliper seal causing brake fluid to leak out. It's quite simple to do and should be clear enough when the caliper is off the hub. Hope this helps.
  18. I would still say brakes, can you get the wheels off and see if there is any signs of them binding. Normal signs would be; Wheel sticking as you try and turn it by hand Blue looking brake disc where it has heated up Uneven wear on the discs (side to side) If it does turn out to be the brake binding it will probably be a sticky caliper or a colapsed brake hose. Both quite simple and cheap to fix. Good luck.
