Evening chaps I know this is a very long time after the feed started but does anyone have any idea of:

    1. How many 54 plate anthracite grey lupo gti s were produced

    2. How many anthracites there were full stop - I have one (54 plate) and believe most of them to be either scrapped or at least off the road.

and 3. How many left to the best of anyone’s knowledge

    Yes

    1. 54 is a bit of a tricky one is most cases as it borders onto 05 year cars. But as we know there was only 2 05 antharcites. From the info i have its around 16 2004 cars.

    2. I have a number of 33 from 2009 and the list i have compares very close to that.

    3. I do not have a exact answer on this but due to the rarity i think the majority of the anthracite one are still around.

Oh gawd James_VW, I should have thought of VW discontinuing all the panels and other original components. Am going to have to be extra careful, not crash and make sure no-one crashes into me!

lupo1.0se I guess there are meets in the Club social calender right, but  maybe they're long distance. My idea of a good meet would be at a pub somewhere anywhere south of London, say in Surrey, Sussex, Kent, or Hants. Nothing fancy, just a beer or lunch on a sunny Sunday in spring or summer.

Some of the panels are avalaible on vw hertiage but it is a hit and miss affair.

Regarding meets etc. Not really happened for a while to be fair. Forums where the thing 10 to 15 years ago however its all moved to facebook. The last meets that happened south east way was one in Feb 2020 after this covid put a stop to things and the main organiser sold there lupo. There was one oxford way i think but i did not go. I did go to the German car show at Brooklands which was good but a bit overun with porsches which made every other german car interesting. I hope to go this event next year. Possibly more.

    Hi ClubLupo people.

Always wanted something quirky, different, rare, old school and (hopefully) reliable and so have just taken an expensive punt on my first VW - a Lupo GTI. Besides a couple of repairable little dinks on the rear three-quarter crease lines the old girl looks in impeccable order for her age. Am guessing this is a modern classic. Hopefully my TLC will take her into her thirties without any drama!

If there are any GTI owners in Surrey up for socialising it would be really good to meet up!

How weird it was test driving the car over the peak district national park under a clear sky and a full moon!

    Take care of yourselves

    Paul

I am not in Surrey but nearby. So Surrey is near to me. Depends where it so be fair where you are planning this.

Air quality in the 1950's was immensely worse in British cities than it is today, NOx quickly turn into acids that can become smog's but never on the scale of the past.

Agreed. But what happened was in the early 2000s diesels where highly promoted and tax groups adjusted from the previous cc category to the emissons based category. However at the time they did not realise about the NOx situation and we ended up where we are now. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It would be ineresting to see what a bus puts out in NOx.

  5. After the annoucment of end of production and the thread y Mk2. I thought i'd make a handy timeline. This possibly may be a little incomplete. But something i put togther for reference purposes.

    Vw Up Timeline

2007 – Vw Up Concept shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motorshow.

2009 – Vw E Up concept shown at the 63rd International Motor Show Germany in 2009.

2011 – Vw Up GT concept shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Motorshow. Concept car was scrapped after the Brazilan motorshow

2012 – Vw Up launched in the UK Market with initial offerings being 60bhp and 75bhp engines. 3 and 5 door available at launch. Special editions Up! Black and Up! White avalaible on launch.

2013 - Vw E Up launched (1st Generation) with a 60kw motor, 18.7kw with a 99 mile range. Vw Rock Up and Groove Up launched (same engines as before)

2014 – Vw Street Up launched engines same as before but with 20mm lowered suspension

    2015

2020 – Vw UP Gti production restarted early 2020 (certain options removed from options list and price increased). Further information below on my thoughts on this. Covid affects production etc.

    2021

    2022 – Vw E-UP (2nd Generation) order book closed circa May 2022

2023 – Jan 2023 production of Up Gti ended due to order book full. October 2023 production of the Vw Up as whole ended.

Vw UP GT concept car scrapped

This one is a bit of a interesting story. I cannot recall exactly where i saw this (might of been the up owners club). But basically the car went to a breakers yard in holland (i think), someone went in there at the right time and saw it there and basically stripped it and reintstated all the parts on his up. It did appear for sale at one point. Got a recent link - https://www.autoblog.nl/nieuws/buitenkansje-koop-de-enige-echte-volkswagen-gt-up-3385027

    Vw UP Gti production paused.

So I knew all along this was not right. Dealers where stating wltp was the reason why the UP Gti had been withdrawn from sale. But yet at the same the Up Gti was test and PASSED said tests (See - https://www.shropshirestar.com/.../these-are-the-cars.../) and was still available to order in European countries when this was first announced. (As of 04/12/2019, the UP gti is not orderable new in any country). Also Japan had a supply of 600 3 door Up GTI’s (this I will discuss later).

This makes me and I am sure other people very cheesed off with Volkswagen’s attitude towards this. Volkswagen for sure knew that the last small Volkswagen Gti was the lupo gti, by the time this car has been launched, 13 years (that’s right 13 years) had elapsed since the last new Lupo Gtis rolled off the production line, if you include 5 door Gti of a similar size (Mk5 Polo Gti), you have to go back even further to 2001 when the last MK5 Polo Gti was rolled off the production line which is 17 years ago. SEVENTEEN.

Also with little market research (see howmanyleft for the Abarth 500 sales - https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93...). Vw could of easily calculated that it was potentially going to be a good seller as by the time the UP Gti was launched it only had the following rivals – Suzuki Swift Sport, Renault Twingo 110 bhp (or equivalent, I must add this is not sold in the UK anymore) and the Abarth 595. It likes having a goal completely open with no goalie and yet missing it (not the best analogy I know, but it is what I could think of).

It seems extremely short sighted of Volkswagen both Market Research and Production capabilities. On the discussion point that Japan is getting 600 up gtis. Again I see this as short sighted as Japans regulations means this comes under a category a car (like the Lupo Gti) which means in Japan there is tax incentives to go for one of these over say a Polo. Which follows onto this, in Japan between 2001 to 2005 they sold nearly 2000 lupo gti’s (1000 more than the uk sold in a similar period of time) and again as with the above have been waiting a similar amount of time for a replacement. With them also not getting a 5 door version as well, this is short sighted by Volkswagen as this could be quite lucrative for them.

    End of Production

As for the end of production. Not unexpected. The model is essentially 12 years old now. They could of made them through to 2024, but I suspect it’s a two fold reason why this is happening.

    1.       Factory is being retooled at present for the new Passat (estate only)

    2.       Euro 7 emissions regulations coming in which for small city cars are next to impossible to meet.

I would not be surprised to hear that the Suzuki Swift or the Hyundai i10 or the Kia Piccanto end production soon because of this.

To be replaced by £57k SUV EV model... Got no concrete confirmation of this story, but apparently this is it for the end of small vdub cars. Anyone have any info? Personally, I don't really like the style of the up. The seat and skoda versions look better IMO.

They expect sales to run out by next Autumn.

Sounds like you have been watching a certain youtuber (you know who you are!)

Anyway. The Up being discontinued is true. It already has been. Confirmed by Autocar. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/volkswagen-up

But its some what confusing. See below dates

The E-UP finished orders in 2022

The GTi finished in Jan 2023

    Reamining Models October 2023

Its something i probably write in a bit more detail as the story is not clear cut. But i hope this helps.

    Hi

Im hoping may be able to get some help/advise...

My son has a 2001 1.4 Lupo Sport. We need to find a replacement gearbox as his driveshaft broke & damaged his gearbox making a hole in it.

We are struggling to find one, im aware we could maybe replace with other gearboxes but not sure what to look for to ensure it will fit and wondered if anyone could make any recommendations & also if anywhere like an online shop to buy one which is not gonna cost a fortune so i can get him back on the road.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

A friend of mine had a sport with a broken box. He could not find a replacement. In the end he fitted one from a 6n2 Polo gti. The ratios where a little different on 1st and 2nd the rest where ok

  8. Did see the article myself. Unfortunately these imports are sady diluting the market in some respects, don't get wrong i get the idea of importing them. But realistically at £10k that won't find a home, i would expect it more to be around £7500. The best UK example sold for over £10k on collecting cars. Sure it was not Anthracite or a blue (i supsect that might go for more if it was in the same condition) but it makes the import seem over priced.

(4h later) All over by now probably...

So how was it? All the gory detail please.

Ah yes i did do it, no one else came but i was going to do it anyway. So from Junction 23 to clacket lane services went well. Did that in around 50mins, i did stop at clackets. It was after clackets it got bad. So there was congestion, then road works at Junction 10 and finally congestion around heathrow. In the end doing the full loop took 2hrs 50 mins. The delays probably added quite a bit of that time. Around 5:00 of the orignal top gear sums it up really.

    I don't think I can go now either, I'm working! D'oh!

Sorry to hear that. Maybe another time....

I'm going to see if I can organise my 3 Lupos to join in. But, being two hours from home plus a two hour lap, turns this into a 6h of driving day. So not sure TBH. There aren't many of us living near to the start-finish point.

    Ok no worries.

  11. Hi all

So i thought i'd check in. This is still happening.

Start will be at South Mimms service station. I can be there from 9am to depart at 10am to do the lap. This will give time to fill your car up at the petrol station if required.. Do the lap. Once the lap is done (not getting off at South Mimms) we head to Burger King or Mcdonalds Enfield (parking rules at South Mimms)

  12. So having look around. Alot of places don't even sell that size. But its something i have monitored on/off.

So two options have come up.

ATS Euromaster seem to imply they can get them but you have to order them pairs. https://www.atseuromaster.co.uk/tyres/toyo/proxes-tr1/205-45-r15-81-v

Demontweaks have said stock is due in but can take up to 60 days. https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/toyo-proxes-tr1-tyre-2005832/

I hope this helps. I will keep looking into this

Further to this. I used the Toyo branch locators. None of them seem to get 205/45/r15

    Hi,

I am the new owner of the above lupo X757 HKY

It's my first car and I had no idea how rare it was.

It will be very well looked after and cared for

Good too hear. The reason generally why colour concepts for a lupo are rare is the option was around £2000 when new. Very few people took this up. A couple of the cars where Ex-Vw Press fleet. We don't have a exact number but the list is guide for known examples/interiors.
