  1. New belt. Don't spray it with WD40 or anything like that, it's just masking the issue and it will definitely return.
  2. 50 minutes to change a set of spark plugs? Either they're a bunch of incompetent retarded inbred morons who learnt their trade from a kids TV show........ or they are lying. I wonder which one. I agree that you should ask them to justify their pricing. In fact, you should ask them to go into detail why it took 50 minutes... Most good garages will happily justify the time taken. I imagine these guys will struggle to do so, considering changing a set of spark plugs is novice work. Also £45 for 'diagnostic checks' is utterly disgraceful. Their diagnostic checks will run along the lines of sticking a VAGCOM on it, reading off (and maybe clearing) the codes and driving it down the road and back. My mechanic doesn't charge me for 'diagnostic checks' (as in running a VAGCOM on it) when doing ANY kind of work on my car, however if you went in and specifically asked him to run a VAGCOM on your car, I can't see him charging more than 5-10 pounds.
  3. If it was me, and this is just what I think... Once you've shelled out to fix it (500 is a bit much by the way) the car will drive like a dream. Especially now that you've got a new Gearbox and clutch. Can you get a car that provides similar comfort and quality as a Lupo for £500. You won't get much for the Lupo as it is because it's an MOT fail. You're looking in the region of a ****ty 100k mile Citroen Saxo with a K&N induction kit. Fix the Lupo, grit your teeth and you'll have a damn fine car at the end of it.
  4. It's a very common problem actually. When I bought my Lupo, the boot light was on driving off from the woman's house. I got out and slammed it shut and it was still illuminated. I doused the micro-switch with contact cleaner from Maplin (they get grit/salt in and corrode) and it's been fine ever since.
  5. Yeah, check the leads. I don't have a GTI but this sounds exactly like what I was experiencing a few weeks ago. Very juttery in the cold. Would eventually go away when it warmed up. OBD showed up "Misfire on Cylinder 3". 4 new leads and 4 new Spark plugs and my Lupo is driving better than ever
  6. Covlupo, if you haven't gone ahead and bought them you can just as easily use two pieces of plastic. I took a thick piece of plastic (not too thick though), cut two strips length ways, about cm or so wide and a few inches long. They only need to press against the clips at the back of the cage and the radio will come out no problem. The keys are useful but a waste of money in my opinion.
  7. Bit pricey in my opinion. That said, not sure what a 3L would go for usually, but 138k miles is nearer the top end of the moderate mileage scale, so you'll be quickly entering into the high mileage zone. Are they all left hand drive?
  8. The staff in big stores never know anything beyond turning on an amplifier and plugging in a lead. I once walked into a Sound Control in Hanley, Stoke and tried to talk to one of the retards about a particular part I was trying to get for a special Floyd Rose tremolo. He had literally no idea what the hell I was talking about. He didn't even know what the hell a locking tremolo was.
  9. Do you own a multimeter? Check both wires
  10. See, I'm not so bothered about the indicator lights illuminating to be honest. Just the doors locking and unlocking.

    Any 1 know if

    man, I wish I had a Lupo 3L
  12. Just have a 1.0L dude, Lupo's are pretty cool looking cars anyway so why butcher a GTI (or install a body kit), it'll still cost a **** load mate. Even a stock 1L will look better than your mates crappy M reg Renault Clio or Y reg 206. If I was a 1st year driver, I'd be pretty grateful to be driving around in a car as safe, reliable and comfortable as a 1.0L Lupo (I'm not a 1st year driver, and still drive one lol!). Just buy a 1.0L Petrol, they're cheap'ish off eBay, Gumtree, Autotrader, etc, reliable and trust me, if you shop around you can get insurance for just over a grand, which is mint compared to some places and some cars. That's obviously a first year driver policy, after then, your premiums will drop massively.
  13. See, that puts me off, that means taking part/most of the dash off and I simply don't fancy that. It's a nice idea, but I'll live
  14. OK, well I recommend that then. Seriously, don't use it permanently up because the problem is if you brake hard, they can sometimes receive quite a shock due to vibration. If you run up the back of someone, or visa versa, they can virtually snap off because the arms are only made of moulded plastic. As a recommendation, I suggest you regularly clean the arms using alcohol or contact cleaner, it'll make sure they don't jam
  15. Mine is an absolute bog standard Lupo, and on a very good run as in between 50Mph - 60Mph flat A road mostly, I can sometimes average just over 40 mpg. My record is about 45 MPG but obviously it's not completely fool proof. If you are looking for the best MPG, I personally wouldn't recommend fitting an induction kit or new exhaust, just my opinion. I know plenty who feel that a new exhaust hasn't harmed their MPG at all. Have to agree with Pete, 1.0 Lupo is very loud for a small car and trust me, the faster you go, the louder it gets. However, a decent aftermarket radio with the stock speakers is usually enough for me, although you'll find it blowing your head off when you start the engine next time lol! I've never done any sound deadening work, but I've always considered padding up the doors as I'm fairly sure most of my noise is leaking in through there. I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable driving at 70-80. I've had it at 90-95 and it's definitely more comfortable than a 106 or Corsa. Don't get me wrong, they scream at 80, but I wouldn't say I've ever been worried driving at that speed. My previous car used to scream at 80 and it never felt right. Was quite unpleasant to drive and I was always scared that the engine would blow up to be honest lol.
  16. May I recommend a Double DIN one if you are going for one with a 6-7 inch screen. While the Single DIN slide-outs are tempting, let me tell you, they have been pretty much disregarded by many major car audio retailers except Halfords because of problems. They're fragile. Even the top makes like Pioneer struggled to make them less fragile. Plus a Double DIN unit looks so much cooler in my opinion!
  17. Not had chance to look yet. Been busy lol! If I do go ahead, I'll take some photos, although I might speak to a friend about fitting it for me
  18. Lol. It's not the splicing that would worry me, worst comes to worst, you bullet clip them using a double ended barrel, it's getting the connections right that worries me. Later today, I might try and whip off the plastic case by the bonnet release and see if I can find the wiring that may or may not be there. If it's not there, to me, it's a no go. I aren't running new wiring down through my dashboard. I simply cannot chance it on my daily.
  19. yeah but you would need extra wiring and that would be a bitch
  20. How much power from the battery does it draw? Also compatible with VAGCOM? I guess not.
  21. Out of curiosity, would these kits be compatible with VAGCOM or are they basically independent units? As in, there's a VAGCOM setting to automatically lock central locking after a few seconds of driving, is this possible with these?
  22. So Pete, you reckon that if I remove the bonnet pull and the plastic the wires should already be there. Does that apply to the 1.0E base model, no electric windows, no central locking, cigarette lighter and engine only model?
