  1. He said he wants to use a genuine VW remote locking. At which point I'm out. It's not 'plug and play', you'll have to rip out your entire convenience module as I imagine they are all coded individually. You will need to get the remote kit from the car, and probably, the convenience module that goes along with that kit, then you will need to somehow butcher it into the Lupo. Not sure how, but it's probably doable. If you have second thoughts, just try one of the aftermarket ones, they aren't all that bad. Good luck though.
  2. This is why I have little faith in the police nowadays. How times have changed eh? The police used to a trusted and respected industry, but they have gone right downhill in the last 30 years or so. When was the last time you saw a local bobby on the street? They are too busy nicking some 17 year old doing 36 in a 30. When dealing with the police nowadays, I know how little they care about me, as such I'm happy to show how much I care about them. Just remember the standard rule of British policing... 'police by consent'. This (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_definition_of_'policing_by_consent') means they are only allowed to do what you let them do (to a degree, it's not quite that black and white but it holds true for most non-serious issues). If they pull you over and ask you to get out the car, you have the right to ask "why" and they have to give you a reason. They are asking you to get out of the car, it is not an order. If they say "I'll tell you when you get out" you have the right to say "no, tell me now", they shouldn't force you unless they fully intend on arresting you afterwards. If they force you out, to then breathalyze you and you come back clean, they have actually broken their code of conduct. It's worth noting that they always ask, they rarely shout or order because of the this principal of 'policing by consent'. If they want me to get out of my car, they better give me a damn good reason. A while back, I was doing 60Mph in a 50 zone. To be honest, the signs aren't very clear so I didn't see it drop. I was pulled over and the officer told me "you do know you were doing 10Mph over the limit back there?". I didn't say "oh no, really, was I officer? I thought it was a 60 zone" because that gives him all he needs to write me a ticket... I've basically admitted it haven't I, even though he only has his judgement as proof. Unfortunately, people do that quite a lot and then just accept the ticket. I said "you sure about that? have you got a calibrated speed camera on your car then?", he said "no, but I was following you, you were doing 10 over, have you been drinking"... See? the focus has shifted from my speeding to my driving because he really has no evidence but he's scraping. I said "no, I haven't", he asked for a breath test which is a legal requirement so I happily went ahead with. As expected, the screen showed zero. He glumly told me to "you haven't been taking drugs have you" then quickly said "look, look, just be more careful from now on and to take care when driving at night, okay buddy?" (I sniggered when he called me buddy lol) Simple eh? I wish it was different, I really do, I'm not a criminal, I want to respect the police but I just can't right now.
  3. Out of curiosity, if your car flies through the MOT no problem, who pays, you I assume? You shouldn't have to pay for an MOT retest (unless it fails of course) just because some copper finds out his wife is shagging his best mate behind his back and decides to go all arsey with every individual he meets.
  4. Rich, could I have that number? What price is he looking for?
  5. Sounds like it could be the microswitches packing up. Either that, or the wiring harness is corroded in the drivers door (could be this as more than one is ****ed)
  6. I thought someone on here said they ran theirs with the plastic key?
  7. I don't own one but I can answer all of your questions: 1. How does it drive? How long is a piece of string? Each one is different. Is it slow? It drives like a 1.2 TDI diesel. It's not setting laps around Silverstone but it's got enough pump to get you to work at back at a ridiculously high MPG. I imagine they are slightly quicker off the mark than the SDI but have a slightly lower top speed, although they have excellent weight distribution so maybe not. 2. Does the stop start get annoying? Do you mean the eco drive or the actual 'stop start'? I've driven a car with stop start and you don't notice it after a while. It doesn't hamper you in any way as far as I could tell. If you mean the eco drive, it's like automatic coasting when your foot is off the accelerator... 3. They are as easy as any other foreign car to import. There are quite a lot in Germany, and they go for a good price over there. Importing them is a task, somewhat, but there are some (not many though) in the UK if you don't fancy that. 4. No more expensive than any other as far as I know.
  8. I'd have had that and fixed it, although with a knackered gearbox it would have been difficult to shift I assume? Or did it work in 1 gear only or 1-4? Someone on here took a 1.4 gearbox and fitted it in a 1.0 and said that it felt a lot more beefy at the higher end. I'd have probably done the same. I wouldn't say good ones go cheap. Barried up Lupos go for next to nothing (I'm glad to be honest, because Barried up Lupos 9/10 look ****) and spares & repair don't fetch much either. Which is why I'm so damn reluctant to let the green machine go in its current state. Yeah, it's got some front end damage, but the engine is perfect, with only 98k on. Someone would get it for a few hundred quid, fix up the panel work and have a perfect car. So I don't know the plan for it is yet.
  9. To be honest, if your 19 and looking at a GTi, with all the current problems with insurance fraud and compo culture you should expect to be paying that much to be honest. I paid £700 for my 1L at that age, a car far less powerful. I'd be happy with 1100 if that's what you can get it for
  10. I'm not sure they are getting very cheap. The Lupo you bought does have 200 thousand miles on. That would put a lot of people off. Wipe 100k of those miles off and it would probably worth twice as much. Also the rust...

    3L on ebay

I reckon he probably doesn't to be honest. Not because your GTI is bad, but he says hes gone for the AUDI A2 TDI 3L, so basically, he enjoyed the fuel economy from his Lupo, but clearly didn't think it was as comfy as he makes out in his advert.
  12. This is so bizarre. I'd be tempted to suggest that it may be something to do with one of the microswitches then, but I don't know how closely they are linked. Do you have a vagcom to hand? Can you test electric windows with vagcom?
  13. This. Second hand cars are always a lucky dip. Sometimes you get a beauty, sometimes you get a shitter. It's really luck of the draw unfortunately.
  14. Fair do. I know they recommend you change it every 5 years but most mechanics i've ever spoken to have said antifreeze can last much much longer
  15. Common one Lupos this is, yep, what they said, give it a good clean with some switch cleaner.
  16. 7 pints + 90 minutes at the Britannia stadium. Trust me, it's enough to drive anyone to effing, regardless of how much alcohol they've ingested
  17. If you haven't noticed... I do haha! I listen to Radio 5Live for the live football commentaries and when I had a shorter aerial, I noticed a huge drop in the quality of the reception. Like incredibly bad. Also, i got tonnes of electrical interference which some of it's normal, like from powerlines and trains etc, but some of it was coming from the spark plugs etc. I changed the plugs and leads, made no difference, I fitted a 3 pound 16' bee sting aerial from eBay... perfect AM again Yes, I like the idea of turning the entire roof into an aerial, but I couldn't find how to do it on Club Lupo.
  18. Seriously? But they were working perfectly before you fitted the kit right?
  19. @GTIChris - the comment about 'pics of daughter' isn't the one that bothered me. Nor is the fact he put up a photo of her. There's girls who use ClubLupo all the time and most of them have a photo of themselves. That wasn't the issue. After he posted the pic, someone said something like "sneak her camera out her holiday bag then upload bikini pictures" or something, i don't remember exactly what it was exactly but like I said line... he crossed it there and then. Also Chris, I have banter on here all the time. Like I said in another thread, being ripped on here (usually by scotty lol) is all part of the fun and is part of the reason why we use it. Yes, we have banter and I do join in the banter dude, but there is a line and he crossed it, at least in my opinion. @Piers - maybe an overreaction on my part. I thought TArosa had been banned because of what Silver said and at that point I thought this is seriously just doing my head in and flipped a little bit. I'd also had about 7 pints and just watched my football team throw a 2-0 lead away, maybe that was something to do with it
  20. No, I'm talking about another bloke (can't remember his name), who promptly deleted every post he made on ClubLupo and hasn't returned. My beef with it; his daughters Lupo was playing up, he spent a number of hours tracking down the problem and fixing it (would have been useful for someone else no doubt), and instead of saying, "cheers, we'll keep that for later" some guy asked him for a picture of his daughter in a bikini. Now, I know it's a car forum and all that malarkey but was it necessary? That guy clearly didn't see the funny side and in all honesty nor did I, there's a line and once again, someone crossed it. The thread has been deleted since he basically removed all his posts which made it empty, but that means he also removed the advice on how to fix the problem with the car. Brilliant eh? Good going. Hope nobody else suffers with the same problem
