Some more up to date pictures of how the car sits. Just because!20210228_180746.thumb.jpg.6371cd95743ac685efeb5a94f88d2e9c.jpg20210228_180731.thumb.jpg.421e404cbae85d8f60e6d9b5ea76542f.jpg20210228_180714.thumb.jpg.7022c60c5a1aa403b521b9be08b16a4a.jpg20210228_180658.thumb.jpg.e639175d48e5a379e3e1a9484923bfde.jpg20210228_180554.thumb.jpg.ccb05a7f87a81fb69edac076a462b308.jpg20210228_180817.thumb.jpg.bf2b505c1eedc36393dd65c42c9ebbf3.jpg

I'm unfortunately starting to get bored. Nothing wrong with the car. It's actually very good at being an car.

Just it seems to be missing whatever it was that my old C200 w202 had that made me keep it for over a year.

However being £1300 into this car, a sale is unlikely to provide me what it owes. It will possibly be replaced around July when the MoT expires and then get covered up and forgotten for a few years.

Such is life I suppose 🙄

    Don’t get down about it.

im £1500 into a 16 year old 1.7 diesel lupo ha ha. Don’t do it for the money. Do it for the love of it.

keep it and use it as it’s intended.

Luckily for me mine is a third car but does all the shitty jobs, supermarket runs, commute, tip, dog walks the lot.  Brilliant car

Don't bother with the rebuild kits. Just buy a complete lock and key. £7 ea. Or you can get two locks with one key for about £20.

    I bought two of these:

Yeah potentially but I hate to have multiple keys for 1 car. I want to keep it as original as possible.
the rebuild didn’t work so something tells me it’s the drivers side lock mechanism instead. I need to investigate when I get more time. This only took me around 30 mins to sort out.

  3. UPDATE:

drivers door lock started playing up until it would no longer open the door.
unlocks and locks fine. Just can’t open it.

tried a cheap lock barrel replacement kit of eBay and that didn’t fix it.
make sure you check the parts you buy or this might happen. See image.

oh well looks like I’ll have to strip the door down and investigate.

  4. just incase anyone uses that ebay link.

i checked the pieces before reassembly and as you can see , the new aftermarket piece is shorter - not sure i wanted that - so rebuilt with the new spring - but didnt do me any good. lock is still the same so back to the drawing board

Faffing about?! That's what owning an old car is about... :)

But seriously, no easy way out without some messing about.

    YEAH what i mean is..

can i not just get a new lock like the one that was listed above.. and bolt in - simple swap out

If the central locking works (I'm assuming central locking), then it's the little alloy thing on the end of the key lock barrel that breaks (in every vdub of that era). You can get repair kits for pennies on ebay. There's a trick to refitting the spring- you tube is your friend.

It's the little C shaped retaining ring usually. Symptoms are that you can turn the key and nothing happens at all. Also you need to get the key in the right position so you can remove it again. You need to remove the barrel to fix it.

central locking works yeah but cant open the door..

can i just buy a new unit to replace it all rather than faffing about. ?

    thanks

All - I am looking for the rear wiper motor for my daughters Lupo, it has the dreaded leak and this water sprays inside the boot lid and onto the catch mechanism.

  10. UPDATE:

It is with regret that Larry will be going up for sale.

WIth a few large bills coming in for my motorbike, and other car, i need the money - this beauty is just sat alone waiting for its next drive since i work from home and have access to 3 cars.

I will create a proper full sale post on the weekend IF the weather is nice, but this thread gives a good representation of its life so far.

    More details to follow.

if anyone wants to PM me about the car then thats fine.

    As always thanks

Nah... one of my SDIs has been parked up since march. I've probably done only about 200 miles since then in one of them. Had to go out for it's MOT in August, but other than that I only take it round the block once every couple of weeks just to keep the brakes clean and keep the cobwebs away.

I get trade price on my MOT from Halfords in Tilehurst for just £24 as I help them out occasionally on clients' electrical problems, so my main cost is insurance at about £20 a month. Plus tax at £30 a year. Running costs are almost negligible now, as spare parts prices are on clearance everywhere, and as we all know you need to walk if you want to find a cheaper way to get from A to B...

my ratings for a Lupo SDI:

    running costs 10

    fuel economy 10

    compact convenience, parking etc 10

    comfort 2

    reliability 9

    street cred 4 (and rising)

depreciation 10 (prices have hit bottom- possibily rising! As they're now becoming more desirable)

Makes sense to have an SDI on hand just in case...

Yeah I love it to bits. Hasn’t moved in a week and that’s a long time for me and my cars.
I have no urge to go to pubs, restaurants etc

we have three cars between me and the wife so could manage on 1 tbh.

we’ll see how the rest of the year plays out. I have an urge for an mx5 😉

  12. UPDATE:

Another 4 weeks has passed. Nothing new to report.

Need to find time to fit the rear brakes still...

With myself still working at home, and the wife now at home, the little lupo isnt get as much use as it once was :(

Not sure whether its time to sell..
