  2. Hi, I'm looking to buy a 37" LCD TV in the next few weeks, with a maximum budget of £500 for the right model, but the closer to £400 - the better! I have seen Samsung 32" LCD's for as low as £285 and would settle for the smaller screen to be honest if the price difference is that much... BUT deep down I do really want the extra 5" (the girls tell me it's important...) so if you have a TV you recommend, or you have seen/know of any good deals about - please let me know

  3. Well, they'll be a minimum of et6 anyway, haha. I think you could pull off 165/55, will be a lot of stretch, but no more than most run in 15's. Can get Bridgestones, but they're expensive, and i think the Federals are usually a bit wider than they should be.

  4. 165/65 R14 175/50 R14 185/50 R14 at most. I think they may catch, but it depends how you run it.

  5. Top Gear at 9 o'clock is ****! I've been bored all night! And it's on at the same time as the only two other programmes I want to watch all week. Phhh. Bring back 8 o'clock!

  6. Cheers Mark, stealing my thunder. I just used this: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp Type in the original width and offset, and the new width. Guess the new et, and adjust until the inner clearance is "The same". Easy. I think you would struggle with 195/45's. Should have rolled your arches before paint!

  7. 14 x 8 with ET15. Have a look at the thread linked from my sig for an idea of the stretch. Looked spot on!

  8. If they are 8" wide, the et is +6. Pokey.

  12. Its fairly easy on the 1 litre. You will need: Parts: New oil filter Oil Tools: Oil tray 19mm spanner or socket. Most of the 1 litres didnt have any under car guard so thats a job taken care of straight away. If yours does then its a simple case of a small Torx bolt or 4. This is easier when the engine is slightly warm as the oil is nice and thin but dont worry if its not warmed. Start by jacking up the car at the front using the correct jacking points, they are in the handbook but just get the jack under the back bolt of the wishbone, you cant go wrong there. Go in from the side not the front! Once the car is in the air on one side put a stand under it, slide the oil tray directly below the sump plug and using the 19mm spanner unfasten and remove the plug. Dont drop it in the tray as this is messy! Remove the stand and lower the car to a level where you arent crushing the tray but the sump is fairly level. Whilst the oil is draining unfasten the oil filter trying to get the oil tray to catch the oil from the sump and from the filter! Slightly oil the rubber seal of the new filter with clean oil, once the filter is on turn it as tight as you can or as the filter fitting instruction says on the box, its normally a quarter turn once the rubber seal has mated to the metal. By now the oil should have finished draining so jack the car back up, slide the stand under and refit the sump plug and tighten, remember that this bolt only has to hold itself in there so you dont have to go crazy when tightening it, just a good pull will do fine. Remove the oil tray and stand and lower the car, fill with the oil, checking regularly on the dipstick to get the correct level, I normally fill to the max mark at this point. Put the oil cap and dipstick back in place and start the car letting it idle for a minute or two then turn it off. Recheck and top up the oil as needed, this last process filled the oil filter so it will have taken the level down by a small amount. Once levelled up to just under the maximum clean any stray oil and close the bonnet. All Done, tools and jack away, trip to the tip with the old oil and filter, wash hands, kettle on and sit back knowing you have saved a bundle of cash and done it all with your own hands.

  13. So basically there were 2 people with enough Intelect to understand what I meant and 1 person who wrote the thread and one person who likes to go against the grain.

  16. How many watts can the transformer handle? Halogen light type ones usually say something like 20-70W, 70W would probably be enough if you aren't going to be constantly playing it loud. Also check the current rating of the headunit - for example 100W @ 12v is roughly 10 amps (assuming 80% efficiency), so if the headunit requires 7 amps then a 70W transformer would do. Also don't forget a small 12v battery to keep the settings every time you turn off the transformer . I have had success using an old PC PSu though the fan made it very noisy!

  18. Interesting to know about screen quality. 32" was OK but just felt I wanted bigger for the difference I sit from the TV. Usually found myself pulling my sofa forwards so maybe 40" is my way forwards! Thanks for all ideas, I'm still searching!

  21. I'm weighing up my options for buying myself a car and a £5k loan would easily buy me a motor and pay my first years insurance... The thing is, I've had so many addresses in the last 3-4 years that I can't get the loan on my credit rating as it stands so I just want to know if anyone can answer me something? I am going to ask my Dad to take out the loan in his name, but can it be set up so I am paying the Direct Debits to the loan provider directly? If not initially, could it be done this way in the end by changing the details after the loan is taken out? What I then aim to do is continue to build my own rating so that long before the 5 year loan term is up, I can transfer the loan across into my own name so that my Dad is only part of the deal for say, a year. Has anybody done this, or does anybody know if the above is possible? Cheers Ben

  22. I realise that it won't build my credit score, that's not the reason I want to take the loan. I'm with lloyds tsb and nationwide building society.

  26. Do what most people have done... Lift up the rear bench and drill a small hole in the sheet metal under the seat cussion. Use a large bolt-headed self tapping screw to tighten down your earth cable.

  36. I hope for your sake they build them better than they used to, but I can't help but think 'you get what you pay for' when spending such a small amount on so many high specs. If you can extend your warranty, do so. Thing is with Acer if they go wrong they don't have anyone in the UK that can help - you have to send your laptop to Germany and when I was contemplating doing this I decided not to based on the 100's of stories about people not ever getting them back.

  38. Left foot braking on open roads isn't necessary IMO, if you're driving that hard you should be on a track. I've played around with it before and it's pretty easy to slide if you're not very 'good' with your left foot. Only thing worth doing if you want to save the box is blipping the throttle on downshifts to match the revs and give the synchros less work.

  47. That dub badge has absolutely no relevance to the "VW" version of "Dub". It's something to do with a "cheep ass" car audio company which plagues "SUV's" in America. The term dub relates to a car on ridiculously large wheels, I.e. 22's, rather than the old-skool term: "Vee-Dub" example:
