  1. I take good care of my lupo (~95K miles). Everything is serviced, oil pump appears to be changed before I bought the car. Oil is castrol edge titanium 10w60. Engine is much more quiet than using 5w30 or 5w40. I've done 7K miles with the light blinking (only when I rev it hard like going up stiff hills and driving around town on hot days) and not any sign of braking down. I'm planning to switch to a diesel so I want the car to be in the best shape for selling. That mechanic told me it's the only possible reason why those 1.4 16v (well serviced) engines have the oil pressure problem. (I've replaced the sensor) So I'm willing to try to fit an oil cooler like the gti has. But I do not know if it is possible or how to do it.
  2. Those engines do not have an oil cooler like the 1.6 engines do so when I drive "sporty" the oil pressure light blinks ocassionally. A mechanic told me the oil is not cooling properly thus the viscosity gets too low and an oil cooler should solve this.
  3. Hello everyone I there a way I can fit an oil cooler on my AUA engine?
  4. Do you guys know if the SDI has oil squirters?
  5. It's a manual gearbox with an automatic device that changes gears. Not that hard to convert to fully manual.
  6. Sounds like some kind of bad crankshaft position sensor or its wiring.
  7. I've driven the 1.0 and it was surprisingly nippy due to its short ratio gearbox, even comparable to my 1.4s. With my 1st and 3rd long gears I barely have any wheel torque under 3000rpm. What s the sweet spot to change gears in the sdi? Are the gear ratios the same or some are longer and some are shorter? I usually drive early in the morning or late at night because I hate traffic, so as my bestie Dblock asked, where does it sit at 60-70 mph?
  8. Thanks a lot for the input Skeeza. It's pretty much what I need. Have you driven the 1.4s besides you sdi? Personally I don't know anyone who has and sdi to see how "torquey" it is in regular driving compared my petrol engine. Hopefully it is not that slow like people say.
  9. I had the same issue so give it some time. When I changed my thermostat only after ~1000 miles the engine started to warm up properly at highway speeds.
  10. I've been through this and the only explanation I have is that vw's suggested oil to use is way too thin to properly lubricate our petrol engines, thus wearing out the "revolutionary" alloys used in manufacturing after a short amount of mileage. Does anyone believe that vw would have had such enormous incomes if they made bullet proof engines like in the old days?
  11. Thats weird. Have you checked your radiator fan sensor? Even if your thermostat is in perfect condition the one which triggers the fan could be off and start spinning it too soon.
  12. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Thats why we have the forums, to discuss.
  13. Thats some great info, thanks a lot. I forgot to ask you about how the engine is running. Any cold start issues? Isn't that true only with WVO? I can't see any reason why new oil from the store would cause problems.
  14. Thanks a lot! How is the fuel consumption compared to 100% diesel? Don't you blend it with gasoline or diesel, just pure oil? Also do you use some kind of heating system?
  15. Funny thing. There are more TDI s around here for sale than SDI s. And the price difference isn't that big. Has anyone tried blending (clean) vegetable oil in either of them? I'm not convinced which one is cheaper to run.
