Nice photo effect, how?

It's called a HDR (high dynamic range). It's done by using exposure bracketing to take usually 3 or more photos and then combining them in post production.

You usually take 1 photo that's overexposed, one photo that's under exposed and finally on thats correctly exposed.

When combined you get the best of every image so nice highlights, details in the shadows you wouldn't normally get etc.

It can be a good technique but is often overused and over tuned which makes the image apear grungey.

to me it looks like an instagram (smart phone app) photo with a filter and that brightness button pressed.

i dont exactly know how the brightness button works on instagram but it always makes stuff look better.
