Nice photo effect, how?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how this photo effect is achieved? What sort of equipment do I need or can it be done without expensive equipment?

More than likely done by adjusting colour, brightness and contrast in a photo editing package.

It's called a HDR (high dynamic range). It's done by using exposure bracketing to take usually 3 or more photos and then combining them in post production.

You usually take 1 photo that's overexposed, one photo that's under exposed and finally on thats correctly exposed.

When combined you get the best of every image so nice highlights, details in the shadows you wouldn't normally get etc.

It can be a good technique but is often overused and over tuned which makes the image apear grungey.

Great, thanks for the explanations guys!

So taking different exposure photos requires a high end camera?

I don't think it looks so much HDR, more overprocessed on the curves.

...but yes; HDR can be ,and is often overdone.

A bit of burning and dodging, sharpening and colour adjustment.

Doesn't seem to have enough halo to be HDR tbh. Loadsa iPhone apps you can do this on, or gimp is a good free program you can install on your computer.

to me it looks like an instagram (smart phone app) photo with a filter and that brightness button pressed.

i dont exactly know how the brightness button works on instagram but it always makes stuff look better.
