jetmech143
Hello, new guy here. Just bought a 05 Fox and noticed the EPC light is on and the brake lights are inperative. From what I have found so far its got to do with the brake pedal switch. Here is my question(s):A. Other than working the brake lights what else does that switch do? I assume something of importance to trigger a warn light on the dash.andB. Is the EPC light the equivalent of a Check Engine Light in other vehicles. (Yep im new to modern VW's).Anyway, any ingfo would be great! Cheers in advance!!!JP.
danoid
Hiya,Well I had the same problem with my car. I had the EPC light on. I changed the brake pedal switch, same error.I then found out that BOTH my back brake lights had blown, replaced them and then it was fixed. Bit annoying as I paid for a break pedal switch which really wasn't needed but it's only £15 so not end of the world.Do you have a high level brake light? See if that works. But as the cheapest option replace both brake lights and hopefully that'll do the trick, if not then a new brake pedal switch is needed
jetmech143
Well, I removed the brake pedal switch and jumpered the pins at the connector that I figured where the ones for the brake lights and indeed they came on including the high level one so definetely that part of the switch was not working. I used a volt meter to check the circuit between those two pins on the switch its self and indeed its an open circuit with the switch depressed or not, so that part is confirmed bad. Now, this leaves the other two pins on the switch, I checked those as well and it shows a direct short between the two pins no matter if the switch is depressed or not. So if this circuit is the one for the EPC light and it was shorted all the time the light should have extinguished when I disconnected the switch and opened the line corect??? but it didnt.I guess I'll put a new switch in and see what happens....FYI on the switch: The two outter most pins on the switch connector are for the brake lights, if you jumper those two together brake lights come on. The two center ones is the question in case at this time... Will follow up.If anyone has info or a wiring diagram please chime in...Cheers. RobG
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1158315A replacement brake switch isn't that expensive from a dealer.
