g60steve
Hi,I've a slight problem with finding 1st gear on a MK1 Arosa 1.0S(1999) and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction of how to adjust the gear linkage please? All gears work fine and I can find 2nd,3rd,4th,5th & reverse with no problem... it's just 1st gear that you have to go across the gate slighly towards reverse in order to select it.I've had a look in the "How to" section but I couldn't find anything on the linkage adjustment....apologies if I've missed it.Any help much appreciated. g60steve
I think there is a guide on youtube, for VWs but will be the sameIf you mean the one by Dieselgeek then that's for 2000-2010 VW's so not the same as a 1999 Arosa/Lupo. g60steve
I've been told there's a 13mm bolt underneath the gearstick that requires slackening off, then adjust the lever to suit and then re-tighten the bolt. Not got round to having a go yet but I'll update if it cures the fault. jonisonvespa
you have to lock off the gear knob, then there is another lock off point at the box you could try to ease up the linkage at the box with silicon sealant first

jonisonvespa
right, its quite simplecar on jackstandsfirst check the two 13mm bolts that hold the linkage mechnisum to the box are nice and tight.then loosen the two nuts and bolts on the gear linkages.position the gear knob inbetween 1st and 2ndthen go and tighten up the two nuts and bolts so they are in the middle position of their slotscheck gears, they should be neary there, the afjuster that goes up/down vertically the one you can only see from the underneath adjust that one if your reverse is way outjust a case of tweeking itat least check the gear oil level, or at best change it.
