foto2021
My 1997 Arosa 1.4 MPi Auto will soon have covered 50,000 miles and I'm thinking about changing the cam belt. When the car was new, SEAT recommended that the cam belt should be changed at 60,000 miles, but this was later reduced to either 40,000 or 45,000 or six years, whichever came first. My car has 50,000 miles and is still on the original cambelt, which is over 14 years old.I'm sorely tempted to leave it for another year because I expect it will cost a lot of money to replace and the car is probably not worth much more than the cost of a cambelt job. I know that I would be risking a failure. So how much have people paid for a new cam belt kit and fitting? Any recommendations for a cheap but competent independent garage in or near Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire or North or West London? James827
i had the cam belt, tentioners and water pump changed on my SDI last month. it cost me about £230 including VAT. i know yours is a different engine but the prices could be similar? just ring up a few places and ask they often give a good idea of how much it would cost. I have had a quote for £380 ftom a VW/Audi/Skoda/SEAT specialist - not a franchised dealer. I can get the parts for about £80 including a water pump, so I need to find someone who can do the work for a lot less than £300.

Mike_M
I paid £120 for a genuine cambelt kit from TPS (2 belts, 2 tensioners, bolts etc) and a new water pump.........got my friend who works as a VW mechanic (15+ years) to fit at the dealer for £80 on a saturday morning.VW wanted something like £360 without the waterpump and my mate would have been fitting it aswell LOL.........no VW stamp, but the work carried out is the same. I just keep the receipts and put his details down in the book.
foto2021
Thanks all. After a bit of research online I have located the parts for just over £50 - that includes a Gates timing belt, 2 tensioners, bolts and a water pump with metal impeller. Now all I need is to find someone to fit them.
