coilovers

Hi, after reading some stuff here and there, it sounds like coilovers are quite bad for your insurance??

not really knowing much about car mods, I'm not really sure if I've declared them or not

went with admiral multi-car and the conversation went something like this -

admiral : any car modifications?

Me : yeah the suspension

admiral : been lowered?

Me : yeah

admiral : how much?

Me : no idea

(finds out from seller)

Me : less than 50mm (I think was said)

admiral : right that's fine, anything else?

Me : nope.

so... are coilovers 'suspension'? if so 'technically' everything said is true... otherwise does the ignorance card ever work? :D

Got the insurance for pretty cheap so wondering if it's actually valid..

You told them so its seems so. Yes coilovers are suspension. Check they appear on your policy when it comes through. My GTI goes up less than £100 with ALL my mods, so they dont add too much unless you stupid young or got a roll cage etc...

Go lower than 5cm with admiral and they wont insure you lol

The woman on the phone told me its 5cm from the ground up...

..so they were happy to insure me if im only upto 5cm

But if I am higher than 5cm they wont be able to offer me extra cover... doesn't make sense at all :angry2:

I Clarified this like 10 times with the woman and she confirmed the above..

It means more you're insured for lowering the car by anything up to 5 cm lower than standard height, not 5 cm ground clearance lol

If you don't have that in writing it means knack all. I'm with Admiral and I declared on the form that I was not lowered more than 5cm. If you didn't tick that box, you aren't covered for the modification.

Please don't hit me.
