Hi all

I have a Lupo 1.9 TDI: (Along with a Lupo GTI and Lupo SDI)

Chasis

Pro Race 1.2's - 195/45/15

Koni Coilovers

H&R 21mm Front ARB

Quaif LSD

Engine

Golf TDI 130 6 speed lump

New Garret 150 Turbo

Custom Intake with cone filter and hard pipes

C2 Motorsport FMIC and custom hardpipes

Custom 2.5" exhaust system (No cat)

C2 Motorsport Stage 1 map

280mm G60 Front brakes

The car doesnt handle as well or anything like my old Lupo GTI, the torque steer is insane, wheel spin takes some getting used to and car generaly doesnt feel very stable or confidence inspiring. I need to do lots of things to try and improve this. My uncle loves it and think it will be fine with some getting used to, which Im sure it will, but you can always improve and fiddle.

Alot needs to be done as you can imagine (or see from pics), however advice would be great.

Imeditate jobs:

Seats - Probally weld in my TT leather that I have lying up in loft as Im tight and this is free

Brakes - I have Lupo GTI rear beam complete with rear brakes here, I also have GTI master cyclinder (They are larger bore), but will need to make custom hard lines up, did this before on Mrs Lupo SDI so I know what Im doing.

Wheels - new locking wheel nuts as old ones have seen better days (Will probally do this tonight as I have TT ones lying around). Might Stud the hub at a later date.

A proper clean (do a little bit each night). Might strip suspension and make sure its all free etc.. I would like to drop the front alot and the back a little as its not the most stable car in the world.

Sort vibration on drivers door

Sort passenger electric window out

Future stuff :

Make a flat floor for it (anythings better than nothing)

Sort a stero out (nothing fancy but it is my cheap to run daily)

Get a 6 speed gear knob

Bonrath bushes for rear beam (Might do with beam conversion imediatley)

Braided lines front and rear (Might do with brakes imediatley)

Bonrath bushes for the front end

Headlight bulbs (These are a joke, nearly dangerous, I havent been brought up driving Mk1 Escorts and I think the lupo is poo family dont icon_lol.gif ) - Osram Nightbreakers (Will these be enough do you think?) Should I stick some *illegal* rally ones in? Or look into HID?

LED lamps and bulbs as I see fit

Sheldon

No idea Defcon. Definatley doesnt handle as well as my GTI, however pics to follow will show you she's alot higher then my GTI. There are a few things that I can do to get her to handle better, battery going in the boot will be the 1st. Conversion was done by C2 motorsport.

Looks a neat install! Re the headlights, I have 130w main beam bulbs that have caused no problems, although they are never on for more than 10 mins at a time

Cheers Tom.

Well I have the TT as my stupid fast toy and I always said my dream daily would be a lupo GTI with a PD170 lump in, and this is close to it. Id like to think in a year or so I will buy a high millage GTI and 2.0 PD it like this. If your around chelt this summer I will take you for a spin mate. Its a bit of a handful as Im not used to it yet.

I imagine thats a handful to drive, my remapped 1.4 TDI is bad enough if you are aggressive with the throttle. It's really good fun though when you get used to it. Can't beat the power delivery of the PD engines ihmo! :shades:

Post up some more pics of the engine bay so we can see how everything fits.

Thats awesome pal! how smoothly (or not) did the engine swap go? and what mpg do you get out of it now? haha feels wrong talking abaout mpg but its a big issue these days. does it feel a lot heavier at the front?

have you got considered a couple of strut braces? never had one myself but i hear they make a considerable difference to the feel, and rigidity is key for stability.

if you get the front wheels aligned and put more toe out on them then that should improve stability, braking and potentially acceleration (wheelspin limiting) but your tyres probably wont last as long... should get nice even wear though and so more grip etc. worth considering along with camber too. small changes can make a huge difference.

this is in theory... might not work but could be worth a try.

MPG is insanley good! No figures to give you yet as only put in about £70 (Im sad and do a spreadsheet) but I think your looking 60+ mpg! What you save in fuel you probally loose in tyres tho.

Strut braces should fit as nothing sticks up high at the front end, however I dont think it needs the front stiffening as already has a whitline front ARB, she needs a Rear ARB.

Car rubs on rear when driven hard over even slight bumps which isnt good, as she isnt that low as you can see.

I cant claim that I did engine swap, but It sounds like its pretty much off the shelf items after welding in engine mounts and just custom FMIC (Evo FMIC on her). Lupo Shafts with Golf CV joints on lupo GTI hubs.

Car certianly doesnt handle as well as my GTI, but not terrible either, what Im trying to say is the extra weight is noticeable.

Alot of modifications will be happening to this to try and get it more stable. (Leather seats went in last night (well 1 out of 2) so I will get some picks up soon.

Not sure how leathers will improve stability hehe.

Also spreadsheets ftw me too haha. i've just baught my sdi to combat the cost of the daily commute, i was using a 2.6 litre petrol merc until today. 30mpg on the motorway at 55mph..... not good when you do 400+ miles a week haha

i've been told that a rear antiroll bar is an absolute must, not sure on the mechanics of it but it stops understeer and tightens up the front somehow,,,, found one on here in a thread for £210 http://forums.clublu...showtopic=35103 dont know if thats a good price or its any good but i really want to try it haha.

MPG FTW

Ouch, however my TT is FAR FAR FAR worse than that!

It will be the Mrs car in Feb 2012 and she has to have heated leather (I have wiring kit already) Just need some roller switches.

The ARB I under stand (I do motorsport engineering) but Im also a tight arse so trying to see what a Fabia VRS runs on the rear or a Ibiza Cupra.

I may stay for a slittle longer until the right car comes along, but still have twitchy feet to move on to something new. The ideal would be an A4 TDI sport

Sounds far too sensible for me!

haha i bet the tt is awful for it. although possibly more fun.

I do Motorsport at Hud Uni but it's all theory for me. dont really get you hands dirty and see the results in the academic area. well we dont anyway haha.

if you find out about the fabia or seat let me know please mate. theres bound to be one in the local scrappy thats understeered wildyly into a tree. so the roll bar would be fine haha.... but if its understeered into a tree then the ARB obviously doesnt work....... paha

 . I do the Beng at Swansea, so less hands on than the BSc but by far the "better" qualification to have. Suits me as I have destroyed my body in a bike accident and need a desk job (I was a Sparky by trade).

Mate did it at Hud, did year 1 and dropped it for Transport and Logistic (Baged himself a 36k a year job now with M and S) many dropped it as it was a poor uni to do it at (Hence I never went). Any better now?

We get our hands dirty as we build loads of stuff including a rally lupo (see RR). I tend to get labeled as office bitch as I can ring suppliers and flirt to get free stuff, do the calculations and theory stuff while they all do their backs in lifting and cutting stuff (Normally thenselves) :surprised:
