Lupo Sport at 17!

Just bought a Flash Red Sport from ShaunB and I was first quoted £1800 with the NFU and another specialist agricultural insurer. When we rang the NFU to finalise the insurance, they informed us it was going to be £5000, this was about 3 days after recieving the initial quote.

So being really quite p*ssed off, the old man told them we'd move all of our insurance for all 8 vehicles to another company. They soon came down to £1200 fully comp, my own policy, Dad and Mum as named drivers, but with me still as the main. Insurance and car paid for by me. So just to let you know it's possible and can be done. The NFU are really down to earth if you get to talk to someone who doesn't just answer the phone :)

Im with the nfu, paying 1800 on a sport at 20, written off 1 car with them already tho, my polo 16v i had before was £300 a year for me at 17 as a named driver with them.

I actually found that with my parents as named drivers i was paying an extra £200, so took them off, this november i go down to around the £1000 mark (touch wood).

NFU are definately the best insurance company, nothing but good things to say about them.

Problem is, they wont give car insurance to people who they dont insure for other things too, we have all vehicles, animals and house insured. Others have called them and been declined a quote cos they dont have other policies with them.

So your telling us its possible, but only if you also have a million pinds worth of farming equipment that also need insuring.

Thanks

im the nfu.......

there unbelievable...:D

£0 extra for insuring my air ride :D

sometime you got to love being half a farmer ;)

lol, its great that they dont charge for any mods unless they add significant (not air filters) power to the engine.

We arent exactly farmers either, just have a small field, 2 dogs and a horse.

Other insurance companies should take a leaf out of their book.

To put things into perspective, nfu actually make losses at the end of some years, doubt many other companies make losses!

They wont be going much longer then, i have not got a degree in business but i do know you usually have to make a profit.

Lol! it does show that they are not profit orientated and that they aim just above the breakeven mark and average just in profit. Thats the best bit about a mutual company, if they make a loss, your premiums go up a tad, and go down if they make profit!

Like BEP51 said, he's only got 2 small fields and he's eligible for insurance with the NFU, even if we didn't have the tractors, acreage, animals and houses it'd still be pretty reasonable.

The NFU are fantastic, as mentioned before, they said no premium increase if i do any cosmetics or some performance :)

Love being a farmer :D

Exactly, the NFU (National Farmer's Union) was set up as a 'Union' it's very basis is simply to be a voice for us UK farmers and try their hardest to get us the best deal we can wager for. In it's early years it was just made up from farmers and had no intention of making money. As time has gone on, obviously it's become more business orientated but it's still working to get farmers the best deal, whether it be insurance or arguing for a rise in the UK pork price.

Can't fault them at all, they stick to their agricultural roots.

Another great nfu fact is that as long as u are the main driver, u also get 3rd party insurance at no extra cost to drive any other vehicle with the owners permission, great for swapping between farm vehicles i assume.

Didn't know that, I'll speak to father and check what my actual policy entails :D

u have to:

A - pass your test

B - be the main driver on the policy

and it is just part of the package.

good if sum1 is drunk and u have to drive them home.

May be a stupud question but im in the plant industry as a plant mechanic apprentice would i be able to get a decent quote even though im not agricultral

They insure our house, our horse, our two dogs and our 3 cars and horsebox, and recently doing life insurance for my dad.

I believe they dont necessarily require agricultural ties, eveyone else in my family is insured by them too, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc, and none of them have anything to do with farming.

I think they like you to have several policies with them rather than just cars, but they are always worth a check.

It's like that with many insurance companies now but most of the time you have to be 21+.

I was 20, but they would have given it to me at 17 if i hadnt been a named driver instead.

Yeaha you'd be alright shag :P they insure you if you had the vaguest relation to agriculture. I think plant hire and such pretty much qualifies you :)

I'm pretty sure I'm the main driver, and yeah, passing my test would factor in it greatly i suppose :P
