New Lupo GTI owner!!

Finally picked it up today. Was promised that the driver's window would be fixed, two seconds down the road I realised it hadn't. I returned back to the dealer who assured me it will be fixed by thursday.

Fair enough.

1 mile later EPC light comes on. Great!! Welcome to the world of 2nd hand cars. I ring said dealer, again, he says sorry it will be fixed. He's a typical 2nd hand car dealer with the full range of excuses and I don't trust him one bit. He "fixed" the airbag light and it's been fine touch wood but god only knows what the garage did...

To be fair the car is looking tired but most Lupo's around the £3500 mark are. I notice this as I was the proud owner of a brand new MINI for well over 3 years and it truly was immaculate, not a swirl or scratch inside or out (I'm a keen detailer) and obviously faultless.

I had to sell it to fund my studies in London and today was one of the hardest days for a while, dropping it off to Sytner MINI and getting a cheque back.

I then pick up a 10 year car from a 2nd hand car dealer in the afternoon and all of the above happens straightaway!

I do know it's a 10 year old car, it won't be perfect, I didn't pay top dollar for an immaculate one and to be fair if they fix the light and window it drives lovely, nice power, looks great etc...

But coming from a new car, as of tonight, I have mixed feelings!!

Sounds like an unlucky day for you! My psychology teacher has a Cooper S and he loves it to bits! Doesn't wear a seatbelt, though..

At least the lupo is okay mechanically (touch wood), only a couple of niggly electrical faults! It's still annoying though I guess..

Welcome to the club :)

Sorry to read of your initial dissapointment, but I'm sure it has more to do with the 2nd Hand Car Salesman than the Lupo.

Sure you'll have her gleeming and a smile on your face soon enough.

Cheers everyone.

Rich- let's hope it's a few niggly bits and it gets sorted soon. The car **touch wood*** drives spot on! Will PM you if I'm getting nowhere, not going through Sheffield anytime soon are you??!! :)

Edit

While I think on- these are the few problems I've noticed, I know some are common faults/some aren't. Could anyone let me know if they're common faults and easy to fix?

Driver Window

EPC light

Screeching noise when starting the engine

Stiff doors, bonnet, bonnet latch, and boot.

Bubbling spoiler and near the rear arches (noticed the bubbling on these on all 5 GTI's I viewed!)

What is wrong with the window?

- EPC light is normally the brake switch gone, simple replacement

- Screetching noise at start up is usually a sticking starter motor

- Bubbling spoiler is a common GTI issue (not on mine thankfully) and rust near the arches is a rare thing unless the previous owner had it really lowered and there was scrubage from the tyres, otherwise not a common thing at all.

Touch wood mine has been brilliant from day one, but did buy it when it was 2 years old

Window goes down normally but struggles going up.

Great on the EPC front, hopefully cheap fix

Starter shouldn't be a problem neither- I guess the car has done 93k miles so the starter has seen better days.

Bubbling is weird, one slight bubble around the arch, I've searched on this forum and it seems to have been mentioned.

It's guaranteed for 1 month so they'll fix it, I've just got to be persistent.

To be honest I'd rather deal with my good trusty local VAG specialist, if they don't fix it tomorrow it's sod them tbh.

I know exactly what you mean, just depends on wether you want it doing free or not really. Id get them to change the starter motor for you for free if nothing else

The arches wont rust as the are aluminium

I thought only the front arches/bonnet/and doors were made of aluminium? I'm talking about the rear arches here.

You're right. I think Defcon5 was having a funny 5 minutes

and any paint defects go to VW as all paint is guaranteed for 10 years :shades:

Only paint that has been damaged from the inside-out is covered.

Anything that has been caused by stone chips is not. Or at least that is what I was told by VW a few years ago???

I can understand how going from a new car to something with a few niggles would give a sense of dread!

I was exactly the same last month. I went from a very nice BMW E46 to a 'needing a few jobs' Lupo GTI. I spent a few days debating if i'd done the right thing. All I can say is, despite the few issues the car puts a massive massive smile on my face. Not only that, it seems to get quite a few admiring glances from passers by and is such fun to drive. I'd like to say it's like a modern day Austin Mini but that might divide the crowd!

All I would say is the issues you have don't sound major and by the sound of it you could just live with some of them and the rest are easily fixed. The fact you've got a lupo gti will more than make up for them! B)

yup bubbling may be covered depends entirely on the dealer

my buds getting his roof spoiler and arches done by VW :shades:

Cool, I might try it on then as I have an incy-wincy bit of bubbling on my spoiler.
