Tigz™
Iv not mate (only got a 1L) but I think everyone who owns a GTi (and even a sport) has fool'd a cooper. Is your car standard?
RallyeBaz
I got beaten off the lights by a Alfa 146 Cloverleaf, although I did have my 13 stone girlfriend in the car style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
ice cool
i've got standard gti 5 speed in red. thinking about performance mods but cash is short and just running the thing is an expensive habit. do love it though.not really seen any other gti's or sports up this neck of the woods(north yorkshire) cant move for bloody minis. baj
A `Cooper-S` would be very tricky, they have plenty of power and can carry muchos speed round the corners, they really handle well !!!A normal Cooper on the other hand should be a easier task. MattyB
Should be very close with an 'S' - probably down the driver really. Its got 40 more BHP as standard, but is alot lardier than a Lupo.Cornering wise the Lupo would probably lose out, but its got huge amounds of grip. Again the lardy Cooper will be generating more lateral force on similarly sized 205 tyres (assuming they've got the 17's) so would possibly have less grip, but it does have a better chassis.I know that the 6 speed LupoGti has better/faster ingear times than a CooperSI also know than the CooperS is quicker round a track... James Saunders
cooper S has horribly long gears, feels like a 4speed rather than a 6speed.. I agree it would waste my GTi on the corners but thru the gears out of them I think i'd keep him at bay !! therefor i'd win because i wouldnt let it past on the twisty's nor the straights !!! alexfernihough
raced a cooper s the other day in my 6 speed gtiwe were about equal wich i thought was strange concidering how much quicker the mini should of been.he chickened out at 110 so i just caried on up to 132mph
Red Lup Gti
132!! Is that it!!!! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
alexfernihough
why what can your lupo do then?the lupo gti only does 125.i got a zorst and bigger wheels and mine was reading 132 on my mates car wich had the correct size wheels.i had about another 1,000 revs left but u struggle to get it to go past 6,000rpm. when i get my viper kit i might be able to get above 6,000 rpm in 6th.why what can u'rs do? and what have you done to get that extra 1,000 rpmbtw this was on a flat road not a stupidly big hill
MattyB
You'll find that 132 indicated was only about 120mph, speedo is *way* out at those speeds. I doubt the Lupo would actually get more than 125mph...
Red Lup Gti
137mph on closed private road with a slight slope and a piper x induction kit on, and thats still having bout 400rpm to play with. I have a 5 speed though.132mph is bloody good with 17'' on. I was struggleing to get past 125mph when i had my 17'' on style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
alexfernihough
i think the 5 speed is slightly quicker because of different ratios.when my viper comes i'll see what a difference that makes.my 132 was actually 132 cos my mate was following at exactly the same speed and he has gps that gives you a very accurate reading. twisty b-road
If you hardly get over 90mph then I reckon you'll have a chance against a Cooper S (assuming equal drivers), but I reckon that extra 40bhp will count over 90 and it'll slowly be bye bye Lupo GTi. Geezer at work has an 'S' an I'm always nagging him but he's not interested.
