Tigz™
Cheapest way of getting power up on the rollers is to pump up your tyres I bet I could fake the highest GTI power on the forum

treblet
Open up the standard filter housing, you should be able to see plenty of spare plastic which you can drill through.Remember to drill the holes upstream of the filter otherwise you run the risk of sucking stuff into your engine! Mattias.K
Has anyone tried these types of filters from K&N:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-57I-INDUCTION-KIT-VW-GOLF-LUPO-POLO-1-4-16V-99-04-/310089970815?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4832cd747fI think you will probably get a lot of hot air with these filters.. Just look here: Although with some shielding that type could work i guess. The smart choice would be to go for a panel filter, but my air filter box is cracked so I'm looking into other options.
