Im looking at fitting cams to mine. do you by any chance have a link to the ones you have fitted or make + part number? what are they like to drive. i know with some cams you need to keep revs up so they are a pain in traffic.

to richardn - that looks like a jabba rear arb. it will fit non gtis :)

Yes, they are Schrick cams and the part numbers are:

0350.E1.561-V0 (256 Variable inlet cams)

0350.A1.521-00 (252 outlet cams)

There are no downsides in terms of drivability.

There MAY be a little throttle lag up until 2000RPM, but it is hardly noticable, and the ECU tune will probably take care of that.

Otherwise, the midrange torque increase makes it easier to drive in town.

Can't wait to see what results you get. Would be great to see how much power it's producing, even if it's not entirely accurate.

Okay, will try to get it on a dyno.

What brand dynometers do you use in the UK?

The closest one to me is a Dynapack brand dyno and it reads at the hub.

It is very accurate (as tire slip loss is excluded from the margin of error) but they read very low. (20% lower than Bosch dynos)

Fantastic stuff!! would love to do this to mine

Whats it like on tick over and low revs pick up?

I've posted above but the throttle may be a bit less responsive than before (under 2000rpm)

However, I wouild imagine that the A/F ratio is lean and the ECU tune would take care of that.

sounds good.

Did you change pulleys as well? where can i get some from did a google search and didnt find much

You mean the crankshaft pulley?

We only did the headwork and camshafts this time around.

We will lighten and balance the flywheel/pulley when the next clutch change comes around.

thats cool. where did you get them from out of interest?

Sorry, not quite sure what you are asking. Where I got my cams?

If you are asking about pulleys, I do not have them.

We will machine and lighten the stock pulley when the time comes.

  • 2 weeks later...

There's not much going on lately so I'll post a video of this weekend's trackday.

You could get a feel of what the exhaust sounds like.

F'd up the first heel-toe but other than that I think I did fine.

they were definitely worthwhile for me, but not sure what your intentions are.....

i would say that the ecu tune, p&p, and cams made a huge difference.

and i daily drive this car with absolutely no downside in terms of drivability.

in the meantime, we installed an igntion stabilizer/enhancer.

the engine definitely revs smoother, but not sure if it really provides more torque (like advertised)

what i meant was road use.

for road use, i'd say the ecu tune is your best bet in terms of cost vs performance.

there is alot of midrange torque to be squeezed out of this engine.

and torque is what makes a car "feel faster"

you'll notice in my video that the tires lose traction and spin in between shifts (3rd to 4th) at 00:40.

that is how much torque this car has right now. :)
