mike1
looks like somebody has tried to change the oil presure switch and cross threaded it so they drilled and tapped the hole in the head to accept a different oil presure switch with a different diameter. either that or you have the wrong oil pressure switch. if you do have the right one then you will need to get a helicoil fitted the the hole to reduce it to the proper size. wich is a head off job really. you can do it with the head on with a magnetic tap and a small magnet but i dont recomend it cause you run the risk of not getting all the swarf back out with the magnet. kapur
got the switch changed today with the right one.Only to find out now that the oil light still does the same.Turn on ignition... Wait 5 seconds... Engine oil light flashes + buzzes three times. Goes out when engine started only.Start engine... No oil light until the car goes over 2000rpm... Then the oil light flashes and buzzes three times, until revs drop below 2k.Car is going up for sale very soon.Unless someone could really help me out.Cheers. kapur
defo gonna get it checked on vag com. Anyone know any places in/near ilford that do it?I'm dreading its the oil pump. because the mechanic said that the engine would have to be removed. And it'd be cheaper just putting a new engine in.I.e. Expensive!!!Car looks like its coming to the end of its life already. With ONLY 87k on the clock. :-(I've lost all hopes. Spent so much money on it. I'm upset. :-(P.s. Is mobil semi synthetic 10/40 the right type of oil for my car? kapur
quick update... Drove the car to work this morning. Now... Instead of the light coming on at 2000+ rpm... It comes on straight away, and stays on.

Mitchell
i drive a 1.0 and to fill the notch up top to bottom on the dipstick is less than 2 pintslittle chrisxxxbollox , from a drained sump!!!if your doing a change fill the filter off the car, then the sump do so when the motor has sat and all the fluid is in the sump. kapur
apparently theirs a sensor beneath the oil pump. This could be the cause according to the mechanic. Since the car has travelled over 100miles and the engine has still not seized. Hence, less likely to be the pump. The oil pressure switch has been changed, but the sensor hasn't.The car is going in for vag com on saturday.Have you got any idea how much and/or how long the job is if its the oil pump? I'm guessing engine out etc... Big bucks!!!
Defcon5
I think you would know about it if your oil pump has stopped working. Unless its just not pumping properly?
Mitchell
vw units very rareley fail all together but do just become shite, nope sump off.
andyp
I dont think its an engine out jobby to change the pump.
kapur
it's weird because the oil light has a mind of its own. Sometimes it comes on above 2000rpm sometimes it comes on straight away while driving. It always comes on on the ignition though.Thats slightly good news if the engine doesn't have to come out to change the oil pump. Going to have to wait till saturday. Poor lupo. :-(
kapur
i didn't know that vw charge £90 just for the diags test. A local vw specialist is charging £45.Any idea where i can get it done for free? I only need to know whats wrong with the car.Everyone is charging so much for just plugging in a cable to find out the problem.Help!!! I've read about people going back for a diag test a various number of times. Surely they aren't paying for them?Anyone have VAG-COM at home i've seen the leads on eBay. kapur
right. So drove all the way to heston (about 30 miles) - hours drive of motorway + city driving, with no problems. (apart from the oil light). Now the car has been driven about 300+ miles with the light, surely its not the oil pump????I'm pretty sure its the oil sensor. Are their any other sensors for oil on the car? Has anyone got a diagram for where it is located, or even a rough idea?

Defcon5
I agree, it should have seized by now if it was broken. But as said before, it may just be not pumping correctly
kapur
how do i find out if its pumping correctly. It's going to be hard to find out. I aint even got a clue if VAG-COM would pick up faults which don't show under the oil light. Engine light faults would show, but not sure about the oil light..... If it doesnt, then youre no better off
kapur
cheers mate. I'm going to gamble it and get a vag-com 704.1 cable myself. Works out cheaper than running to VW every time.
