Sport Inlet Manifold for Lupo 75BHP - Saddo wanting to mod 75BHP Lupo

Hi there, I know that this site isn't catered for the non sport Lupo, but I've been dying to ask a question about the difference between the Newer 1.4E 75BHP and the Lupo sport 100BHP tongue.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />.

I was looking at the K&N filter web site and found a pic of the Lupo sport, and noticed that it has a different inlet manifold, mainly alot bigger. I want to ask if its possible to used the sport manifold inside the standard 1.4E, which is also 16v and twin cam, to gain a little bit more performance out of it. Obviously i'll need to chip it if such a mod was done.

I've had a look at the spec of the lupo sport and the 1.4E all the engine features are the same, ie 16 valve twin cam and compression ratio. differences are slightly less fuel economy and alot more revs. I know ****** all about engines, but would i be right in guessing that the Cams should be the same because of the small difference in fuel economy. Bigger inlet manifold gives more air, which gives more acceleration and more revs and ultimately more BHP? Could it be this simple? please put me out of my misery biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Thanks

The same question has had me thinking alot to - i've seen both engines and that is the only real difference.

Plus i cant see VW going to all the trouble of making 2 entirely different 1.4 16v engines - when they could just play around with the air flow abit and reduce the performance.

After all VW already have a 1.4 8v 75bhp engine that was used mark 5 polo and Seat Arosa.

Sorry couldnt answer question - but at least its just not you thinking it.

Thanks for the reply, i'm glad that i'm not the only one who thinks about this.

I think i'll try and get hold of a Lupo sport inlet manifold and see if a Garage will fit it tongue.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />. The next question would be the fuel injectors and would would they be similar? If it can be fitted, in theory, i should get alot more throttle response and i might even get more acceleration, even without chipping it biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />.

I'm sure it won't be easy, but it should be fun wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />.

im not 100 percent certain but I think it is inlet manifold, and also something to do with variable valve timing?? and then the rest is in the engine management, so I reckon it would be relatively cheap to get 100bhp

I dont think you will see a significant difference from changing the inlet manifold alone, I suspect its more complex, but like I say im not an expert - try a specialist place like AAT they will be able to tell you straight away

Second opinion:

VW Lupo brochure 2003 model

States: 2nd paragraph - "The secret of the Lupo GTI's performance capability is a combination of the engine efficiency and the lightweight constuction. Its 16 valve engine features VARIABLE VALVE TIMING on the inlet camshaft, leading to a flatter torque curve."

Ha! tongue.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Thats the hard thing, I know I will want to play after I get the GTi. I had got ideas about driving to Lossimouth in Scotland and back over the weekend when I first have the car, as if I take the scenic route thats at least 650 miles. Then down to Bude in Cornwall the week after. Just thinking how much Optimax will the baby drink? Aah sod it, your only young once

They will be in production till late 2004, I still cant believe Im ordering it this sunday. Its taken me ages to save up for the car and insurance.

The GTi has a 7.5 gallon tank, same as all others, just drinks more juice.
