New owner, already loving my Lupo style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I've been after a small car for work for ages, I had a Fiat Cinq, until a nice merc driver shunted it sideways on a roundabout, then I had an Audi 100 (2.2l 5 cyl monster, didn't do well on fuel) while I was looking for an alternative. I was looking at the Smart ForTwos, they would have been ideal, easy to park, low fuel costs etc. A test drive changed my mind on that, although it was nice to drive, the bounce when it changed gear was a bit offputting, plus my gf didn't like it.

So, the other week, i spotted a Lupo Sport for sale up in Aberdeen, got a friend to test drive it, he said it was good, apart from the gearbox, which he thought was bad, hard to find gears, etc. I went up the following weekend with my gf, we drove it around town, liked it a lot (she likes the cats in the pattern on the interior) and I bought it. I picked it up last Thursday, and waved cheerio to the audi and it's 68 quid a time fuel tank.

And I really enjoyed the drive down, it handled perfectly, the ride was comfortable, and of course it's got the funky blue dash lights (main reason for getting a lupo over the arosa). The gear change is a bit iffy, i think, after reading on here about the pedal box, i'll get my tame mech to check it out style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I love the site, it's full of really useful stuff (like the details on the pedal box), and I'll try to get up pics when i get home tonight style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yes, there's a small ding in the front wing, and a scrape on the bumper too. I guess the previous owner didn't judge the gap quite right :S I think the scrape'll polish out, the dint I'm not sure, i'll just avert my gaze style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I popped up some pics of the 2cv, I'll link to them here, here and here, rather than inline imaging them.

And please, Arosa drivers, I wasn't dissing your dash lights style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> In fact, when i was looking on autotrader around here, there were a grand total of three Arosas available, compared to 16 lupos, they're obviously more saught after style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That is a cool 2CV, what engine is in it? looks like you have extended the bonnet?

Its ok lol, i like the blue lights on loops but i like the red ones just as much style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

It's a 1299cc Citroen GSA 4 cylinder engine (was bored out to 1299 from original), the running gear is from an Ami Super and yes, the bonnet was extended to cover, it's a complete refab made out of fibreglass.

As is usual with these things, I didn't build it, i just bought it. It's a hell of a lot of fun to drive, and very noisy (both wind and engine) but is surprisingly stable, and powerful enough that I've surprised the hell out of an Audi TT driver style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Sadly i was short of funds for a while, so it sat on a drive not under cover, and the rain had a bit of a go at it, the undersealing failed on the back driver's side so needs a bit of welding doing, plus the carbs got blocked, yet again, so it's going to take a wee bit of work to get going again.

That sounds like a great car, what do you use it for? just fun?.

Oh yes they are prone to rusting arnt they. My parents have had about 5 2CVs years ago, and ami 8s and 6 estates and GSAs etc. weve had loads of Citroens, and people who say they are crap dont know what they are talking about style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Weve got a renault 4 atm which i want to swap for a 2CV, but it wont be anything like yours, just a standard one, will be able to go to meets with our other old citroen as well.

Yeah, the Ami suspension means it holds a hell of a lot better on corners, and you don't get the same amount of body roll, which is also good. The twin carbs give it the most amazing engine note, all from the front end, none of this 'lets make it loud by sticking a straight through drainpipe on in place of an exhaust' style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I got it as a summer fun car but was made redundant shortly after getting it so wasn't able to spend as much money as i would have liked on keeping it running properly, so it ended up sat under a car cover for quite a while. It's currently gone back down to live with Ian in Haverigg (2cv specialist) while it gets fettled back up again. The welding's been sorted, only cost 150 quid, which considering what needed doing isn't bad at all. Just the mechanics to go now...
