"Topping up Oil"

Recommended Posts

Hiya peeps...

Just a quick question:

Is it possible to just top up the oil in the engine, even if the oil is different? Are there any major drawbacks to doing this?

My oil is dangerously low, and no garage near me could do it today, so was thinking of just topping it up till it has it's service (in 2000 miles time).

Thanks in advance smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If its serviced as per the VW instructions it'll have 10w-40, bt I doubt very much it would make any difference mixing grades

Why not get it serviced earlier? its supposed to be every year or 10K isnt it, i do mine about every 6K - 7K and use a flush each time, so its never dirty, even in the diesel its still clean after 5K now.

Its usually best to top up with the same oil that is in already, but i dont really see it making much difference, aslong as its the right VW spec grade of oil you use.

If its really low then it must be using oil?

Chris
