Snowball
Hiya peeps...Just a quick question:Is it possible to just top up the oil in the engine, even if the oil is different? Are there any major drawbacks to doing this?My oil is dangerously low, and no garage near me could do it today, so was thinking of just topping it up till it has it's service (in 2000 miles time). Thanks in advance style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Joe
Should be fine yep.just top it up, but don't over fill it
lupogtiboy
you just need a decent 10w-40 oil, something like castrol will do!
seanmooney17
if the car does not use 10w-40 and you put in a different oil will it not do dammage, a mechanic told me it can mess the engine up if two different oils are mixed. Joe
If its serviced as per the VW instructions it'll have 10w-40, bt I doubt very much it would make any difference mixing grades
cardaft
Why not get it serviced earlier? its supposed to be every year or 10K isnt it, i do mine about every 6K - 7K and use a flush each time, so its never dirty, even in the diesel its still clean after 5K now.Its usually best to top up with the same oil that is in already, but i dont really see it making much difference, aslong as its the right VW spec grade of oil you use.If its really low then it must be using oil?Chris Edited January 11, 2007 by cardaft
Gavs_arosa16v
To be honest it will do more damage not having any oil. If its getting changed soon nothing to worry about.Mine drinks quite a bit of oil when its due for a change.
