How to: Fit lupo headrests to an Arosa

HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Remove all 4 Arosa headrests & put the Lupo rears onto the front seats. Do not use the Lupo fronts on the front of the Arosa or you'll get this problem

This is the headrest pushed as far back as they will go, hardly the best driving position! You cant use them on the rear or you'll have the same problem & they nearly touch the rooflining! Use the Lupo rears on the front seats & they sit like this

MUCH BETTER!!!!!

Now take the Arosa front headrests & remove the cloth cover by unclipping it at the seam (you can use a screw driver for lthis)

Once you have undone the seam pull the 'pins' and the whole inner unit will come out like this

Unclip the two halves of the box with a screwdriver like this

and you will then be left with this

Remove the U-shaped bar & then remove the metal retaining clip by releasing the 2 retainer tabs & then squeezing the clip with a big pair of grips, like this.......

You will then be left with the bare U-bar. As this bar is to be for the rear headrest it will currently be too long to use so it will need to be shortened, at standard each pin measures just under 10" long.

The next stage is to drill/cut out the 3 retaining punches at the top of the bar & peel back the metal so that the pin can be slipped off

Each pin then needs to be cut down to 6" & refitted

Now that you've sorted your mounting bar, move onto the Lupo headrest and remove the cover in the same way that you did with the Arosa headrest until you are left with this

The foam will almost fall off from the front but be careful when removing the rear foam as it is a reasonably tight fitting & can be split it not careful. You will then be left with the plastic frame. Locate the screw on the top & undo it with a suitable torx bit/allen key

Then, using a screwdriver slide off the retaing clip

Again using the screwdriver push in the two plastic retaining clips just under the bar & remove the entire piece

Once you have done this fit your moddifed Arosa U-bar into the Lupo headrest, refit the Lupo retaining clip & replace the tork screw. When refitting the screw tighten it as much as possible (to the point that the bar will not move) the reason for this wil become obvious later!

Now the bar is in & fitted, trial fit it into the seat to check that it sits level

Everything ok? Now refit the foams & the fabric cover & your done! Now you're probably wondering why I said to tighten the u-bar bolt so tight that it doesn't move?.....

On the Arosa the rear headrests are fixed & non adjustable whereas the Lupos' can pivot forward & backwards. If the modified headrest is allowed to swivel freely it would drop backwards away from the head not forwards! By tightening the bar right up the headrest will stay in the upright position, but if required can still be pushed backwards should your rear passengers wish to lay back & relax (very comfortable by the way!).

To give you an idea of how the headrests sit this photo shows the modified Lupo rear (left) with the unmodified U-bar, & the standard Arosa on the right. Both sit far too high in my opinion, hence the modification to the pin lengths.

A quick pic of all four headrests in, nice & low, not leaning forward & no unsightly metal bars in sight!

Of course if needed the headrest height can still be raised! Hope this has helped anyone doing a conversion, I'll update later with how to use the remaining bits to build a second set of headrests!
