Parts Needed:

Straight wiper arm (available from most car accesory shops)

Small piece of flat steel bar (15mm x 10mm x 4mm)

Open the bonnet and using a small flat screwdriver lift off the wiper arm caps, there is a small slot for the driver to fit into.

Using a 13mm spanner undo the nuts securing the wiper arms.

Put the bonnet down and lift the wiper arms and remove them, this may need a little shaking around to get them to come off. BE CAREFUL OF YOUR PAINT WORK.

Open the bonnet and remove the rubber gasket from the plastic scuttle panel.

Remove the three screws from the scuttle and lift it out, the rest will pull out if you start at the end and work across the car, it's clipped in.

Using a 10mm socket unfasten the three bolts holding the wiper assembly in,disconnect the wiring from the motor and remove.

Unclip the 2 link arms from the ball joint on the motor, put a screwdriver under each arm and carefully lever them up at a slight angle.

Remove the 'C' clip from the back of the drivers side spindle and take the whole spindle out, you wont be using this again! I would suggest keeping everything you take off though.

Using the 13mm spanner unfasten the nut on the motor drive and again lever the arm off.

Cut this arm in half along the flat in its centre, using flat steel bar add 9mm to the centre to centre length and tack weld this for the moment.

Refit the link to the motor, it fits on in a horizontal positon with the ball joint to left of the motor shaft. clip the link arm to this and then refit the assembly to the car,not forgetting to connect the wiring!

Turn the wipers on to the normal speed, now make sure that everything is running free and not hitting any part of the assembly, if it does hit then turn them off and rectify this, (file off the problem). smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Once happy that no contact is made turn off the wipers and close the bonnet, Fit the new straight wiper arm and wiper to the spindle, position the arm to the passenger side roughly pointing at the tax disc area.

NOTE: I used a 16 inch arm and 21 inch blade. BUT, I am sat lower than the rest of you so you may need a slightly longer arm, not much though, only another inch or two at the maximum.

Get in the car and using the wash/wipe function wet the screen, Hopefully the wiper will be moving in a nice arc, make a note of any position change needed to get an even sweep, turn the wipers off and repositon the wiper arm if neccesary. Repeat the above until you are happy with the position of the wiper sweep.

Mark the wiper's rest position on the screen using masking tape and a pen. Remove the wiper arm and open the bonnet.

Carefully unclip the link arm from the ball joint on the motor arm and remove the moddified arm from the motor. Weld this arm making sure you get a good weld.

Paint the arm to prevent corrosion.

Refit the arm to the motor, lightly grease the inside of plastic socket on the link arm and refit.

Refit the scuttle panel pressing the clips in along the screen bottom.

Close the bonnet and fit the wiper arm in the positon you marked earlier. Remove the tape and try the wipers again. Fine tune the positon if needed and there you are, a single wiper conversion for less than £20.

Please remember that this worked on my car and should work on yours, BUT dont blame me if it doesnt. smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
