How to: Lubricate your door locks

Recommended Posts

I've just sorted this problem out on my Lupo. You will need to take the top door pannel off (see my guide in the'How To' section.)

After taking the pannel off. Carefully pull the foam back exposing the inner workings of the door. Put your key in the lock and turn the barrel. You will see that the moving parts inside the door which lock and unlock are very dry. Spray a lot of WD40 on them and keep moving the barrel.

Everything should be nice and free again.

Basically the inside of the Lupo's door gets a lot of water running through it. A lot of that water hits the inner parts for the lock casuing them to seize up.

The inner workings of the lock should be done every 12 months max to keep them free and lubed up.

Its also worth spraying the lock barrel from the outside (including the boot lock). Make sure you get right in deep with the WD40 though.

[nfbr's Hints and Tips]

If the lock is stuck use 'Plus Gas' as this is a penetrating spray unlike WD40 then Gently Jiggle the key. Once it's free'd up, I suggest using some Silicone Spray Lubricant!
