Lupo GTi (Jap import)

Recommended Posts

After a little time away, I have returned to the VW scene, and thought it was about time I signed up and said hello and introduce my recently acquired Lupo GTi...

It's a 2003 6 speed model (53) which was imported to the UK from Japan in 2015 however it had sat parked up for a year as the previous owner bought a rather nice mk7 Golf GTI and had heavily modified that, so the Lupo sat under cover on the driveway, however it was regularly started and moved and checked over.
Standard spec is largely the same as the top spec UK models with Xenon lights, although it does have nicer heater controls than the UK models! lol

It's had 1 previous UK owner and 1 owner in Japan, 85k on the clock and is really, really clean. I've been looking for a nice example for a while, between myself and the mrs this is our 3rd Lupo GTi now, they're such great little cars!

It came with a few modifications that the previous owner had carried out:

Adjustable coilovers (not sure on brand),
15mm front hubcentric wheel spacers,
20mm rear hubcentric wheel spacers,
BMC Carbon air intake,
Custom front fog lights fitted,
Rear wiper delete,
KAM Racing stainless cat-back exhaust system,
Cambridge rear lights,
Pioneer Apple carplay double din head unit and upgraded speakers all round.

I spent the first week after buying it detailing it in the evenings, and on the weekend getting it all up to scratch (detailing OCD).
Also removed the rear window tints and wind deflectors, gives it a much cleaner look.

Here's the results...

I didn't think I liked silver, but yours looks great and, I'm sure, is all the better for what you've done since owning it.

Looks absolutely great although a bit low for my liking. Any speed bump related issues yet?

Nice looking car.

Xenons are not "top-spec" as those were standard on all markets ;)

Only in the first two pics. I Adjusted it and fitted camber bolts since, and the other pics show it all spot on and checked, all perfect now. :)

Thanks. No issues with speed bumps at all, no rubbing issues either (front 15mm / rear 20mm spacers).

Top spec as in it has air con lol. Sorry, was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment as most specs are very similar.

Will try to get some done over the weekend, still getting the interior up to scratch (cleanliness OCD lol).

Nope. 190bhp standard, Schrick inlet, upgraded camshafts, head work, manifold, exhaust system and a custom map. Was 226bhp on a well respected dyno, so technically not 230. ;) Even if it was over-reading, it just felt good. I'm not really one to chase numbers, but it's quite a well known car within the VW Scene both down in the South West, and up in Scotland which is where I bought it from.

Was just always a very, very strong engine. Even before the work was done, it felt brilliant (as if it had been modified, but it hadn't).

I wish I had put a charger on it tbh... just didn't want to spend any more money at the time as was moving house so needed to free up some cash.

@190 standard it would have to be a very healthy 2.9 bottom end converted to odb2

Great line-up of previous cars, loving your VR6, there is something so intoxicating about the noise they make, pure bliss! 2.8 Vr's are 174 bhp, the 2.9 is 190 bhp standard

It had the Corrado 2.9 in it from a low mileage Storm model, Schrick inlet, cams, head work, injectors and loads more stuff. It was a good few years ago (6?), and I cannot remember the full spec (let alone what revs it was at sorry lol) annoyingly as it's all on my old PC.

I will add, these are previous cars. Currently I only have the Lupo (and a Porsche Boxster that I am selling as it never gets used), most of them were sold on to fund various other projects/house purchases/improvements. A fair few with regret though :(

No the engine was bought partially built but not fitted when I got it, then sourced the inlet and had it mapped at a local specialist. All the receipts went with the car :(

Little update, ordered some new 8x15 custom wheels and had to wait for them to arrive (imported) then had them built up with new 185/45/15 tyres all round.

Adjusted the suspension, adjusted the camber (rear shims not fitted currently) and this is how it now sits...

Modified the rear arches, painted the calipers so they are now bright red again and adjusted the suspension again and gave it a good clean and took a few photos at a car meet this evening...

It was on the Hyundai around 8 years ago...

It was on the Porsche until last month or so lol - the DVLA have certainly had their money out of me for registration transfers and retentions.

It's also been on many other cars over recent years including an Elise, another Boxster S, a few Clio 182's and a Focus RS Mk1.
