This is just my 2 cents but open to correction.....

Yes you can BUT...

What mods have you got....cams, tb, supercharger, turbo....if its a standard n/a then whats the point unless you have whats mentioned??

Remapping n/a cars that are standard, i doubt you'll see any difference.

Found GTI map. 036906033_5WP43307_3551_lupo_gti.rar

As said above it is an atmo engine, you might get 10% or so on stock hardware.

Translated the german bits

I now have two sets of what i think are duff injectors... they're meant to be 0.170 hole drillings, but I'm now convinced that they're smaller, probably something to do with the wire brushing cleaning process. When pop tested they open at the right time, but obviously don't flow right because of my recent lack of power issues... so... I have bought a micro drilling rig that I can use under my binocular microscope and some 0.2mm drill bits. I'll drill them out them have a go at remapping my SDI. Yeah, so it'll end up being a smoker, but I think there might be more power available. Sausage, I'll have to pick your brains at some point in the future. NEver worked on an SDI map before...

where did you pull those labels from? BOsch don't release them and I know for sure that they are not in the Hex dump code inside the ROM!

Also, for some reason I can't download that file to look at- tells me 'forbidden'....

I wouldnt be using a steel wire brush on injectors, just a soft toothbrush and some thinners, maybe a brass wire brush.

I've not worked on sdi map either, just rummaged thru it on your thread. There's 15 - 20% free power there it looks like to me.

Yeah, i only found out the other day you shouldn't use an angle grinder with wire wheel attachment on newer diesel injector nozzles.... but the really odd thing is, after cleaning the nozzles, i took them down to our local diesel specialist who i asked to test them properly before fitting them. They did and two passed, and two failed with 1 or 2 holes being blocked. They ultrasound washed them out and then retested fine. I saw all 5 jets squirting beautifully on all 4. So i pulled out my suspect injectors and swapped them with my 4 known good ones, then my car was completely gutless... and there the story began.... looking forward to drilling out the holes.

You can remap any NA engine. The only thing that will generally change is the emissions. Don't forget that the team that tunes and develops the engine are a bunch of petrolheads as well. When ford recently came up with their ecotec series they were all celebrating their amazing achievement which really is awesome IMHO. Ultimately, if the mechanical engine is the same, it's already been tuned for the best it can give without self-destructing. If you change something, then sure, you'll always get a difference (not always more power though...).
