mk2
Everyone forgets to service their gearboxes... The 085 needs an oil change every 30k or so i'd say. Vdub engines seem to last ok now. Ok, so maybe not the 2l diesel or the alloy 1.6 lumps but most do seem to go on well if looked after. I think rich knows lots about the 3 cyl engines and their foibles (like balance shafts)... The days of 80's and 90's lumps are sadly gone, where you can find an old 1.6 or 1.8 mk2 golf with 400k on it, never having had anything done but oil changes. Seals start leaking if people get too enthusiastic about washing their engine bays too much! All that detergent plays havoc with the water repelling side of them. Rich
I've done two sets of pd diesel crank seals this week. 200k engines though. funny, I was reading the 3cyl balance shaft thing the other day.... imperfectly balanced due to a lack of space...
