Tomfinn94
Hello guys new member on here Have an issue with my mk1 arosa. Will sit at 90 on temp then go all the way to reduce as if overheating. Fans will kick in and go back to 90. Any ideas Thanks
Pete
What is your coolant level like?
Tomfinn94
Drops a little water. Not mega amounts
Pete
Over how long a period of time? Get it so it's running hot and check all your hoses are the same temperature, also does your car blow hot in the car?
cj1
I presume by "Goes to reduce" you mean "Goes to red"? To add to Petes suggestion, check that specifically the bottom hose to the radiator is getting hot.

cj1
Just now, Tomfinn94 said: Okay I spoke to a guy who does bits on my car and he thinks thermostat. The very quick and simple check a few of us have suggested (checking the pipes) will quickly identify if it is.
Tomfinn94
I told him first thing he said is thermostat lol I'll check pipes tomorrow night when I pick the car up
cj1
Haha it likely is. Had this problem on mine except a replacement from euro didn't solve it ether. Ended up taking the thermostat out completely, now it takes ages to warm up!
Tomfinn94
I'll get a pattern one as see no point paying £30 odd on genuine on a £200 car
mk2
Yeah thermostat... But if the levels are low, that can give the same symptoms. If there's no leak and the coolant keeps going down, could be head gasket. Don't run without a thermostat unless racing, as the engine runs most efficiently, with peak power at about 90c. And when filling use the right antifreeze, ideally OEM G13, mixed with distilled water. Check the old thermostat before bunging in the new one... Pan of water on the stove with a thermometer.
