Hello Pete.UP to three years ago car had been laid up for a few years.A old lady owned the car and had go into care.when she passed away she left it to the family. The car is good as new.MOT last year had to change all four tyres  Caused.                                By separation or partial failure of its structure.the tyres any wear on the tread. Past MOT Thursday but had advisory. Parking brake lever has little reserve travel.Rear parking secondary brake  imbalance requirements only just met.It appears that the braking system reqieres adjustent or repair.I have owned the car for three years and the brakes seem ok to me. The car is auto so l select  P and apply the handbrake. I have year a year to sort it will have a look at it  when the weather improves.James.

Well if it's done nothing it's probably just a bit seized and needs a bit of a clean and lube.

However if you are wanting to try adjusting them for now to see if that gives you a bit more effort there is a trim under the handbrake itself which comes off, you'll see the mechanism and pivot point and two cables. They each have a lock nut on so slacken them off and tighten the nuts behind them to create a bit more pull on the cables. Try to tighten them evenly so as to keep the pulling effort equal on both rear brakes.

If you're unlucky and can't quite get in at the adjusters with that trim off you simply have to lift the whole panel up. Lift the gear gaitor off the surround, you'll see two 10mm plastic nuts, take them off and lift the whole lot up from the back of the panel nearest the back of the handbrake lever, there is a spring clip holding it in place so it needs a bit of a tug, releasing that should give you enough room to do the job.
