coopersim
I've had to replace my cat as it has failed. The replacement (genuine new vag part) has a small cut out in the heat shield where the lambda looks to go, but there is no opening on the cat itself, just a smooth metal surface - is this normal? Will I need to drill and tap to fit it? Edited December 24, 2015 by coopersim
mattarosa
Did your original have one?
coopersim
Yeah the current (original) one has a rear lambda sensor fitted.
carrera-gt
Can I get this straight, one new VAG CAT 2 positions for Lambda sensors only one used ? One Lambda or two depends on the engine management system fitted. If you have a Lambda that doesn't have a home then it suggest you have the wrong part
coopersim
Current cat has two sensors fitted one at the manifold one at the rear of the cat new genuine one only has the front one - no rear connection
mattarosa
It does seem like the wrong part to me.

mattarosa
You could drill and tap but that means having a big enough tap of the right thread pattern. Where did you get it from?
coopersim
Vw in dartford
mattarosa
strange, number plate given? It's a 3L you've got isn't it?
coopersim
My plate always comes up as a beetle so I make sure to always provide the vin. It's a 1.0 se
mattarosa
Oh how strange, never usually mess it up. Does it come up with a one litre se with the vin? I think your best course of action is to go and confirm withy them and tell them you have a second lambda floating on the loom.
coopersim
I'll give them a buzz. My only other thought was to drill a hole and weld a suitable nut over the hole.
mattarosa
so not to tap it then, the other option is to cut a plate out of the old cat incorporating the thread and weld that into the new cat
carrera-gt
Take old CAT to supplier must be a part number there somewhere, I wouldn't mess the part up just take it back, if it's wrong it's wrong.
