So, ive been trying to cross a few things off my list, and so far have gotten nowhere. Here's a list of .... stuff:

- Ordered a new exhaust system. Myself and my dad are going to fit it this weekend. Mine is heavily cracked at the cat, and corroded badly from the cat back, and so sounds like a tractor at the minute. I've gone for a cheaper option of welding the crack, but replacing the cat back entirely for a newer system. Thats due to be done this weekend, so expect an update.

- In my quest to make my car shine brighter than Blackpool Illuminations, I ordered some LED Indicator bulbs. Long story short, they didn't work. So they have been sent back and I'm awaiting a refund. I have ordered more that I'm assured will work. If not, I'll make my own...

- With winter coming, I thought itd be a good idea to get her serviced. After the service, and any adjustments that need to be made, I planned to monitor things a little more closely with the use of the Torque App and a ODB2 bluetooth adapter, coupled with fortnightly checks on VAGCOM. Alas, the adapter arrived and wouldn't work either. So I'm awaiting a new one.

- Having not found a suitable compromise for the LED Stop and Tail lights, I think im going to turn to OSRAM bulbs (I will get pictures of my dad's nightbreakers for whoever wanted them on their thread. If you read this and it was you, remind me please.) for the time being.

- Wheels will not be until after christmas now. I have some ideas as to what i want, but i think itd be better to wait until ive had a respray and sorted out several other things.

- Fixed the clunking noise on full lock. Something wasn't aligned correctly and something else was upside down on the coilover :shifty: *cough cough* dad's fault *cough cough*

- Pressed plates will be arriving some time next month, alongside the central locking and keyless entry.

- Window regulator should've been done before it started getting colder, but i guess now i have the motivation to do it, the cold is my punishment for procrastinating.

- Rear badge: how easy is it to smooth it over? or is it worth while buying a new badge, that isnt the lupo one i took off in the first place.

- Bump strips will be removed this weekend hopefully, may get the misses to help rather than letting her watch me freeze my balls off from inside the car.

- Smoking my headlights and fitting my smoked indicators is another thing on the list, but i want to be able to get it all done in one, so it might be some time before i get round to doing it.

That's not even the entire list. But its what i plan to accomplish and complete before Christmas.

Thanks for reading, updates will be coming soon.

Myles.

Update: Came home from work to find i had a package. Was the LEDs i was assured would work. They had built in load resistors, and still didn't work. So, OSRAM bulbs it is.

So;

This is a CREE headlight. My dad didn't like the OSRAM ones because they look too yellow. But he did say that they are perfect for cutting through darkness on motorways and dark country lanes.

This is the OSRAM bulb. The light pattern in the lense looks different at this angle, but it's just as bright as the CREE bulb. I'd recommend the OSRAM bulbs, judging by what my dad had to sat about them.

And finally;

A more detailed update will follow tomorrow.

A Cree headlight, what wattage is that? They able to produce enough lumens to be road legal?

I think they could be considered illegal because it moves the little silver reflector cap and makes it splay outwards. Once we realised they would reflect differently, we put the OSRAM bulbs back in. Not sure on the lumens, however my dad was told they were the correct H bulb (cant think what kind it was now) and im not sure on wattage or any specifics. If you want me to find out i can if you'd like? The OSRAM bulbs are sort of pointed, so they fit into the cap and reflected properly. The CREE ones didnt.

Loving this mate, looks simple yet awesome already! different wheels and would of said that your sound to enjoy for a while!

Thank you very much: Wheels will be after Christmas i think. Still getting used to all the little changes ive made before i get something as expensive as them!

I wouldn't mind having a look at the CREE, see what the light pattern was like.

I just spoke to my dad, and he said that the CREE bulbs aren't worth what you pay for them, but he had been running Night Breakers before that. So they might look a little cleaner, and might be a decent step up from standard OEM bulbs, but there are better, cheaper alternatives to them.

Alright so:

The weekend gone, i travelled up to my dads with the misses to fit this:

IMG-20151106-WA0007_zpsghdyxkxp.jpeg

I took it to a VW specialist who quoted me Ā£370 for an entire new system. My dad quoted me nothing.

So after the two hour journey up to his neck of the woods, we came to a compromise:

He fits the system and I fit his new headlights, indicators (one of the sets i bought but never returned), and his new fog lights. Perfect opportunity to

a ) keep the misses busy and teach her something useful at the same time.

b ) comment on how my dads bonnet is poverty spec because it has a pole to hold it up and mine has the pneumatic piston :tongueout:

He started with the front end of the exhaust.

DSC_1495_zpsomfdaxhw.jpg

He welded the crack in the cat, and then also found the flexi-pipe tubing (the bit coming down from the manifold) was coming away too. So he sorted that as well. We turned it over and it was running much more silently!

We then removed the back box. This was the main issue, as it was corroding and blowing really, really badly. It had been previously patched by the looks of it, and the old sealant used was cracking and falling apart at the touch.

DSC_1497_zps6skt8biz.jpg

DSC_1498_zpswodak5tp.jpg

By this time, myself and the misses had finished with his lights (the indicators took nearly an hour due to the lack of hand space and the stiffness of the indicator holder :rant: ) and so we helped out with holding the exhaust whilst dad secured the new u-clips in place.

DSC_1499_zps2odbefyj.jpg

It doesn't sound antisocially loud, but its noticable. A gentle mumble when idling, and then a little roar when it comes to some spirited driving :tongueout:

So thats a large issue off the list. Next will be the service and then pressed plates. And then some bigger visual changes perhaps.

Thanks for reading

Myles.

New ODB Scanner arrived today. Ran a scan of the fault codes and these came up.

On Saturday when we changed the exhaust, we had an issue where she wouldn't pull off at all. When we pressed the accelerator to the floor, nothing happened. We had to press it all the way to the floor, and even then it'd take a few seconds for the revs to get up to a point where it'd be enough to move forward. and then after that, it'd pull forward a few inches and then chug loudly and then cut out. It did this for about 20 minutes. The idling sounded really, really rough. And then when we turned it off and turned it over again after leaving it for a little while, it sounded fine and drove fine too.

Anyone ever had these fault codes or this particular issue? or know what it could possibly have been caused by?

Edit: These fault codes were taken tonight, but i cleared them, ran the scan again, and none of them came up.

It sounds like on Saturday, you had a 2 cylinder misfire, as logged above. A single cylinder misfire would result in the car feeling very sluggish but still just about drivable. When my girlfriend installed a cheap knock off coilpack, she lost two cylinders and the car was almost completely undrivable.

It sounds as though this happened Saturday for you. Maybe a sign that your coilpack or leads are on the way or plugs perhaps?

The best thing you can do with faults is clear them, because if they're an actual fault (and not a false positive) they'll come back.

Thanks Skezza:

As it happens i cleared the faults and scanned again this evening. The same fault codes came up.

Another item on the list....

I would work methodically. Replace the plugs, then replace the leads, then if no luck replace the coil pack. You should always replace leads and plugs when you change the coilpack anyway.

Ok, Thanks for your help. I'll probably do it all next weekend

I wouldn't mind having a look at the CREE, see what the light pattern was like.

Skezza, I haven't forgotten, my dad lives the other end of the country. I'll be seeing him this weekend, so ill try and get a picture of the CREE bulb, and the light pattern (if possible.)

In the meantime, I'm going to set about sorting a few mechanical issues that have come about. The spark plugs issue i mentioned earlier on in my thread, i will hopefully be getting sorted this weekend.

The gearbox issue is really starting to bug me, and so im going to change the oil in it first to see if that may be the issue. If it doesn't fix it, then ill set about saving for a new gearbox, or at least the repair. From what I've explained to a gearbox specialist, he said the rear bearing/bush (i cant remember specifically) might have failed, and so the mainshaft may be moving when trying to put it into gear. Which makes it incredibly difficult to change gear. He quoted me Ā£500 for it to be stripped, replace the bearing/bush (if thats what it even is) and then rebuild it and put it back in Loopy. So i think ill try my luck with the gearbox oil, as that could be what the issue is.

All in all, no more cosmetic changes till after February at least.
