What's the 'electric' part of an electric sun visor?

I see many of the sun visor's on eBay have an electrical connector:

I know these ar efor Golfs, but what on earth is the electric part for?

Ah ok, thanks

Not sure why the old Golf and Polo ones have an electrical connector in the visor itself. It clearly feeds into the visor, but I can't see a light anyway on the photos.

Same thing on a Passat:

It's the switch in\ out. The light as posted above comes on when the visor is down and the cover is slid back. Close the slider or put the visor up and the light goes off.
