Hi, looking for some advise. Sons Lupo has been running grand, apart from today when check engine light came on.

Have done a scan and the following codes have come up;

01: Engine.

1. 17978 - P1570 Engine start blocked by immobilizer intermittent.

2. 17584 - p1176 Lambda behind catalyst control limit reached.

3. 16684 - p0300 Random/Multiple misfires detected, intermittent.

4. 16684 - p0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected, intermittent.

17: Instruments.

1. 01039 Coolant temperature sensor (G2) Open or Short to Plus intermittent.

25: Immobilizer.

1. 01176 Key Unauthorized intermittent.

Again, any advise as what to be checking or replacing, greatly received.

Cheers,

Davyjp.

What engine is it?

I'd do a compression test on the cylinders before spending money on bits for it, you can buy compression testers for about £10 - £20 and they are easy to use, that's cheaper than any garage would charge you to find out if your engine needs money thrown at it.

Misfire can be electrical or it can be burnt valves, compression test will help answer which it's likely to be, instead of buying a coil pack and then finding your valves are burnt.

Second FlipFlops really. I would clear everything and then drive it as per and then scan again in a few days. These systems aren't foolproof and are very capable of throwing up errors that don't really exist. Hell, if you let your battery go flat your ECU logs a whole load of faults regarding the airbags and various bits and bobs. They don't always clear themselves either.

Clear it, drive it, then see what happens.

If your coilpack is on the way out it's a real straightforward job. I'd change the leads and spark plugs too though.

Hi, just to update.

Had cleared the codes, drove for a couple of days and rescanned.

Misfire codes showed again as did the coolant fault. So I took the advise and changed out coil, leads and plugs this evening. The plugs were in bad nick. My local motor factors didn't have the coolant sensor in stock so it will be done in the next couple of days.

Cheers,

Davyjp.
