weslangdon
My TDI's gearbox has a problem that's baffling both me and my local VW specialist. There are no issues going up the gearbox, 1-2-3-4-5 but on the way back down 5-4 is fine but to get into 3 you need to press the gear box to where 2nd is before pushing it into the 3rd slot 3-2-1 are fine. Any ideas anyone, it's not stopping me use the car as its something you just adapt to but if my wife wants to use the car I'll get earache
Skezza
Does sound like the linkages to me. You changed your gearbox oil in a while?

weslangdon
What feels like a shunt on changing in the lower gears that disappears at speed and in the higher range
weslangdon
The verdict from NG Motors of Splott in Cardiff [who I rate very highly] is that the clutch is slightly misaligned and that its catching slightly which means the gears aren't perfectly aligned, they thought it wasn't serious enough a fault to replace it though. Part of the shunting issue is that it's a diesel and a 3 cylinder will never be as smooth as a petrol 4, final fault a broken front exhaust hanger was welded.
