Recommended Posts

I want to make this like its supposed to be there.

my plan is to put it going into one of the blanking peices

and then use a usb hardwire kit with a voltage regulartor to connect it up. this is where the help is needed. how would i connect the hardwire kit up?

would i need to connect it to the cigarette lighter wires or somewhere else?

Easiest way is to buy a pre made voltage regulated socket. They're about a fiver. Then mount it in the blanking plate and wire it into your cig socket.

Only thing I don't like about that is that the cig lighter in the Lupo is not switched, whereas on my 9n3 Polo it is.

Would you not be better taking it from a switched aux source?

Why? Energy is energy. It'll draw a tiny amount for the LED, and leak some as heat due to the stepdown, but really, without anything plugged in the drainage will be minimal.

If you do decide to wire into a switched, I would suggest running a relay from the head unit down to the cig socket.

And you may call me an idiot, but I have left things plugged in before

could i not hard wire it to the ignition so it only comes on when the cars on? or that just the same as doing it from the headunit?

the same. Just use a relay.
