4Cough
Howzit guys, as per my "Introduce Yourself" thread, I am Jonno from Johannesburg, South Africa. I am a VW Club of South Africa commitee member, I run our advertising section as well as an event co-ordinator. I am in the process of planning a huge VW event where we will be doing Track racing, Hill climb, elimination drags, skidpan, and possibly gymkhana too. It is going to be massive! I received the car of my dreams on Sunday the 15th of March, the same day I test drove it. On that Monday I already ordered a new windscreen that a mate of mine brought back with him from Botswana (as no Lupo parts are available in South Africa) Tuesday 17th of March another mate went and picked up my NATIS, took the car for Road worthy, got the License disc and got my GP (Gauteng Province) plates. When I bought the car it still had UK plates on. If I am not mistaken it is the only SA registered one in South Africa, there is only 5 that I know of in the country. 3 of them I have seen in person. I am so in love with this car, only fault is the windscreen else it is 100%, in amazing condition, can’t believe a 13 year old car has been so well looked after, by a woman. There is too many features to list so I will just post a picture of the ad. Below is a link that was the first info I ever had on the car, made me want one so bad. https://www.dieselnet.com/news/2000/07vw.php Would give my left nut for an Arosa, but I’m very happy with my cabbie, maybe in the future I can do something similar to the below link http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/arosa-mk2-2-0-16v-bkd/ Anyways onto what everyone wants to see, Actual Pictures of the car My 2002 VW Lupo 1.4 TDI !!! Silver!
FK are pretty popular over hear. I can recommend KW if you can get them. You do realise that a Lupo GTI front or rear bumper aren't a straight fit? Nothing's impossible, but the front wings on a GTI are wider and there is an extended sill on the shell to accommodate. The rear quarters of the GTI are also a different shape, so the rear isn't a direct fit. Lupo Sport rear bumper would be a straight fit, but to make the most of the centre exhaust exit, you would need to modify the spare wheel well. I want to see exactly what I'm in for.
RichNor
The easy way out would be fitting an aftermarket lower front bumper of your liking. There are some to choose from, and it would be way, way easier than the GTI bumper fitment.

Rich
Hey.I'm after some south african golf mk2 parts and I'd be happy to work something out if you're after some Lupo parts ?
Dblock
Do you use 2 stroke in your diesel. Very common in your area.
Silver!
This, in my opinion is one of the most successful front end conversions. He's used side skirts in place of the GTI extended sills and I like what he's done with the rear bumper. You could fit a Sport rear bumper for a centre exit, but would need to modify the spare wheel well.

4Cough
So finally I got my coilovers and it was time to install,Starting at 9am on a freezing Saturday Ria mate and myself pulling into my Grand father's garage for some good old fashion wrenching! We began on the the front and driver's side was absolute piss! (once we got our head around things)Then we hit a bit of a hiccup (probably a 2 hour plus hiccup). The top of the shock shaft where the allen key is put was split open, which meant we could not stop the shaft from turning while loosening the top nut. After a lot of pondering and trying to figure out what we could do I finally did what I was dreading the most, calling my grandfather to come and help me.quick side step: My grandfather, a retired Wits Engineer, is the type of person, as clever as he is, to break 2 things in the process of fixing one thing. So the problem we were having was that the vise grip would not grip onto the shock shaft as it's chrome so it just slips. So My grandfather asks for a second and walks away, and what happened next will forever make me laugh when seeing my mate's face.My grandfather came walking back with 2 Grinders, a small one, and one almost as big as the car!So what he ended up doing was grinding the passanger spring into 4 pieces while i held the spring still with a vise grip now this made me siht myself as like I said before my grandfather is pretty rough and, one thing which I never mentioned to my mate, is also got one glass eye, so you can see why I had to change my underwear stright after this job.But the look on my mate's face while my grandfather was grinding was absolutely priceless! (note to self, always carry a camera!)Once the springs were cut the bigger grinder was used to flatten either side of the shaft so that the vise grip would hold onto it, and wala! the nut was removed! The back of the car went pretty smoothly and with only a lit bit of hammering the coil overs were finally fitted. The car was set to look like it was going to drive down hill everywhere I drove, and could probably only drive in one line as the wheels were tucked away behind the fenders, so with some adjustments the car was lowered at the back and raised in the front and is looking fine like Emma Watson! And now for the peechas:Before:Me crapping myself while I put my arm on the line holding the spring still:And now for the final Picture:Thanks so much to reading! 4Cough
Small Update:When I bought the car it had a cracked windscreen, so the day after I bought the car I ordered one from Botswana and my mate collected it there for me and I had it in 2 weeks, I decided to only put it in after Dubrun (http://www.vwclub.co.za/events/what-is-dubrun) as I was not lis to throw 2k in the toilet when some guy flicks up a stone onto my windscreen. The window actually ran about 5cm while on dubrun, and had 2 stones hit the windscreen so luckily I delayed.Anyways here is a pic of the cracked windscreen, not much excitement seeing the new one though. 4Cough
Another small update:While at a social car wash club event I decided to spoil the little loaf. The headlights were looking a bit yellow so had a lights restoration done. The lights look like a year year old car instead of 13 years lol!Was worth the bucks! Some pics from Tape up for our biggest VW Club event, #DubRun15 (http://www.vwclub.co.za/events/what-is-dubrun)
4Cough
A pulisher used my car for a shoot with the VW UP for his review and used my car to compare it too.He also took some wicked pictures of my cabbie at the same time. The UP review: http://www.chriswall.co.za/reviews--news--events/driven-vw-upThe full album of pictures: https://www.facebook.com/?_rdr=p#!/media/set/?set=a.376290165914893.1073741864.249299945280583&type=3Some of my favourite pics:
