  2. hi i dont know if this has already has been posted or not i cant seem to find it if it has! i will be getting an engine conversion done in the near future to a 1.8t and i was just wondering as to what gearbox would be the best to fit? should i stick with the gearbox that is with the original engine or should i change it to something else?? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers peeps or any links to some gearbox threads
  3. Hi there, There is a VW Lupo with an automatic (electronic) transmission (like this on the site 22). The transmission was repaired, & there are 6 pieces of wires & there are 6 connectors on the gearbox. Here i uploaded a picture about this. The wires are: the nr. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9. My question is, how can i identify, what wire belongs to what connector on the gearbox? I find this info nowhere in the service manuals. The wire nr. 4 & 5 are blue & red. What colour is the upper & what is the lower? & how can i identify the wires nr. 6,7,8,9 & for what connector belongs these on the gearbox? Thanks for the help, best regards!
  4. My gear stick is stiff but still goes into gears ok. Tried to lube the joints and the cable but still no better. Clutch feels fine and it drives well. Are all Arosa's like this? are they all stiff as maybe it's because its a shorty shifter, I dunno.
  5. Hello I have 2 lupo Gti gearboxes for sale: 5 Speed (mileage unknown), was sold to me working but I never fitted it so I can’t guarantee this. £70 6 speed (2002 – 99800 miles), gear change was smooth but it did start to make a noise when in 2nd/3rd gear. The garage believed it might be a differential issue, so would need reconditioning. £100 The collection is in Banbury Oxfordshire, if you would like to arrange a courier that’s up to you but I imagine that it will be very expensive due to weight. If you would like both I will do them for £150
  6. Looking for a Lupo GTI gearbox. Preferably 6speed, but would consider a 5 Wanting one ready to fit with not too high mileage and smooth changes. Cheers
  7. Hi all, Just bought a project lupo. Needs a new gearbox as this ones only got 3rd gear?. Wondering if there's any recommended alternative boxes to use before I start looking about. Mike
  8. Hello There, Just bought a 2002 Lupo 1.4 16v, just found a crack on the box after previous owner said it was just a selector seal away grrrr..!!! Was wondering if any other 1.4 gearboxes fitted it. For example 1.4 16v polo 6n2 or Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v etc. I appreciate any input. Have A Good One. Cheers Billy
  9. I was wondering would it be possible to swap 5th out of a diesel gear box such as a 1.7 sdi gear box and install the 5th gear into my 5 speed lupo gti gearbox so I can have a longer 5th gear? I haven't seen anyone else post about it so I'm wondering if it is possible to swap or is there another way around it??? Would be great if someone could get bavk with a answer, cheers.
  10. Hello, I was wondering if anyone had the knowledge to help me. I had my gearbox reconditioned as it started making a whining noise & was most likely soon to go. After I got it reconditioned I drove it for 1500 miles and my gearbox went completely, A garage has just put another gearbox in and everything is fine, runs through all the gears fine, But when i try and put it in reverse it is extremely hard to get in, It feels like its hitting a wall, I have to push it towards second and then push it up, And when I take it out it is very stiff and is very hard to get out & end up in 2nd gear once its out instead of neutral. When its in reverse it drives fine! Its just getting it in and out! Sorry if its not the best explanation, help would be appreciated. Regards - Ralph

  12. Hi guys! First post... Anyway I have a 2001 Lupo GTI 6 speed on 106 K Having an issue with 3rd gear . Basically the car will drive in third gear if I put it in nice and slowly and I think its only once it has rev matched. Otherwise if I try and up shift to 3rd gear normally it just grinds and is having none of it. Sounds to me like the syncro for 3rd? Because I can sit stationary at idle , try put it in 3rd and slowly lift the clutch up it just grinds. Whats the best route to go , I know its hard to find a replacement box so refurb? Anybody in Scotland know a place that can do it ? Cheers!
  13. Hi guys, just taken out my ETD gearbox from a 1.4s Lupo, had lots of trouble trying to get a new box, but ive come across a Seat Ibiza box from a 1.4, bell housing is exactly the same, just wondered if it would be okay to fit? Bought it, and had it serviced, bloke said it was mint, just wondering what the gear ratios are on the Lupo, and if it would run okay? Cheers
  14. Ok so the gearbox is pretty much finished after 122k miles, pretty sure it's the pinion bearing. Standard symptoms such as incredible whining noise in 3rd 4th and 5th. Need my car as quickly as possible so will replace first with cheap 1.4s box if I can't find a sport one quick enough. Then I will attempt to rebuild my sport box over the next few months then swap them out again. I won't swap the clutch because it was only changed about 20k miles ago but the release bearing is a little noisy so I wanted to swap that. Also the last time I had my gearbox out there is a metal sleeve that sits over the input shaft of the gearbox which if I remember correctly the release bearing fits over. This had worn so badly last time it was rubbing on the input shaft of the box. So my question is, will this sleeve be the same for the sport and non sport box? And are the release bearings the same? I just want to make sure I order the right parts so i don't run in to any problems when taking changing everything over. Also just in general, will there be any compatibility issues with using a non sport box? I assumed that all the 085 boxes would be interchangeable. P.S. If you have a box in decent condition for sale sport or non sport please pm me.
  15. Hi ive come on here as I know its the best place to get the straight answer by the people will know the best..... I know there Is a pinned topic about the gearbox issue already but im being asked specific questions by someone who is meant to be getting me a Recon box...... I know that my Box code is FFR & that this is the same part number as 4 other Box codes. He is asking me if the Gear Selector is Underneath or on top of the Gearbox?? also if the Sump is Aluminium or Steel..... if anyone would be able to answer his questions for me then I would much appreciate it because im currently unable to find the answers online & don't have access to a garage for a few days. Thank you in advance Ashley Lonie
  16. Hi there, My Lupo has just had a gearbox replacement, on return the car seems to have a rough idle. The revs stay on a constant 850rpm but after warming up the engine will pulsate and judder. HELP!
  17. Hi There, I have an Lupo Sport engine code AUB with an ETB gearbox. My car has just been into VW for some diagnostics into a oil leak and they have told me that my gearbox is leaking. The selector shaft is damaged and is wearing through the seal. i have had the seal changed but still leaking. The car has only done 22,000 miles!! VW have told me that i need a new gearbox and quoted me over £3000!. so i have tried looking for a second hand gearbox on ebay etc. I cant seem to find an ETB gearbox, just the ETD from the 1.4s. My question is, Will the ETD gearbox fit my Lupo sport? Thanks Jack
  18. Hi all, I am thinking of getting the gearbox oil on my new (to me) Lupo GTi. I don't expect it had been changed in its life and would prefer to make sure it has a refresh. What is the recommended (or better) gearbox oil for the 6 speed box ? Thx
  19. In looking through the classifieds, I have noticed that there are a fair few cars advertised with a replacement or refurb gearbox. Most of the cars seem to be on around 100k miles and spread across both 5 speed and 6 speed boxes. I would have thought that a VW gearbox would last more than 100k miles. Is this a common issue and one I should budget for if the car is still on its original gearbox ?
  20. I have a April 2001 999cc lupo E. Variant SCAUCX01, and i am experiencing some odd gearbox noises. I had thought that the general transmission oil also served the gear box but i am reading that there is separate gearbox oil and that may either need topping up or renewing? Any thoughts? Also do I need a 17mm hex plug / Allen Key as is suggested by other topics to top up and/or drain? Do you know where the top up and drain plugs are? Any pics? Thanks

    GTI Hunter

Hi all, New here (posted in the Intro section) and on the hunt for a Lupo GTI. I have to admit, these cars did not factor into my thught process before I started looking but having come across this interesting little car, it is growing on me. I have joined here to find out a little more and hopefully get some advice from the Lupo community ! I am hoping to see one at the weekend and had a few questions: - It is a 5 speed, should I be worried given the Polo rep ? Should I hold out for a 6 speed ? What is the difference when driving (other than extra gear ) when driving between the two ? - What kind of mileage can these engnes/drivetrain do before needing expensive work ? - Is Red a good colour for these cars (I haven't seen on in the flesh yet) ? - Other than rust on roof and checking the electric windows, are there any other common faults I should look/check for ? Thanks for any help and advice you can provide
  22. Hi all, I recently had the clutch replaced in my Lupo GTi and since then the gear shifter doesnt feel quite as positive going into first, third, fifth or reverse. second, fourth and six are perfect, the shifter engages with a satisfying click but 1,3,5 doesn't feel like the gear stick is properly engaging (although it does select fine and doesnt pop out of gear or anything). I have attempted to reset the linkage by locking the gear stick with a 5mm drill bit, and then removing the slack out of the linkage at the gearbox, but I can't seem to improve it... its as if I've taken all the slack out of the cable and it still needs to be tighter. Am I doing something wrong, or could the cable have stretched while the clutch was being replaced? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
  23. I have a problem that is baffling me and wonder if any one can shed some light on it i have just swapped the gearbox on the wifes arosa for an identical one im haveing a few problems when front of car is jacked up about 2 foot goes into gear easily without engine running when its level on the ground it wont go into any gear, second when you press clutch in with engine running goes into gear with no noised but then starts to drive the wheels without letting the clutch out any idea what this could be as been on it for 3 days now and doing my nut in as im not qualified or anything just have basis knoledge and trying to save a bit of money , my theiory is if its broke have a go you cant brake it any help advice much appriciated
  24. Anyone know to a lupo 3L thats breaking? or sat still long enough to borrow the gearbox ecu? My cars been at a garage for months now and I need to rule out the ecu as the problem so i can move forward. I've paid for one from germany but it's never showed and now appears to be back up for sale on eBay. I've now got to go through ebay disputes to get my money back or part sent, which will take time and it may not even be the problem. So If I can find a part here it would be a lot easier. I'm in the west midlands. I can obviously pay, pick up, whatever Cheers for any help Graham
  25. Hows it going guys , i am new to the forum here just joined today as i have been having a bit of car trouble the last month or so. First things first , i bought a Seat arosa 1.0 2002 with 60k on the clock in january 2013 once i bought it i got the timing belt etc done for peace of mind. 2 months after a bought the car the clutch pedal snapped and went flat to the ground no movement and all and could not go into gear , got it wielded back together and all was good. the last month or so i have been grinding going in and out of gears Especially reverse , sometimes it goes in when the cars first started then other times it just bad i have to conk the car out to put it into reverse,, Huge pain to say the least... but the clutch is very creaky when pushed up and down and if i remember right this is the creaky noise i heard the first time it snapped. do you guys think this is a pedal box problem as i know lupos, arosa are common with this problem... if so is there an upgraded box i can buy or how much would it cost to have replaced rather than wielded... any information is highly appreciated ... thanks in advance!
