  1. Hi, I'd really appreciate any thoughts or advice to remedy the fallout from some servicing muppetry. To cut a long story short, a nearside front brake pad was mistakenly inserted the wrong way round so the back plate was grinding the disc. Result: metal particles embedded in the paintwork down the side of the car. Can anyone recommend a safe solution? Thankyou
  2. Hi I'm having a similar problem - intermittently - whereby I attempt to start the car and get no response. The starter solenoid clicks, and I can hear the fuel pump at the rear whirring, but the starter doesn't turn the engine. Had the problem earlier in the year and had the battery replaced. It's been fine again until now. Any thoughts please? Cheers! (1.6 GTI 110k)
  3. OK thanks for your advice. I've noticed that the battery I bought as a replacement is slightly less beefy - perhaps struggling in the winter weather?

  5. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the following symptoms: Foolishly left interior light on overnight and ran battery flat - pepped it back up again with a nice long charge, but after about a week there's not enough power to turn the starter motor. Battery was new in June so I don't think it's that - could it be alternator failing to charge properly, or something else draining power even with the car stationary? Any thoughts/experiences I'd be grateful to hear about. BTW it's a 2001 Y GTI Thankyou!
  6. If you have a friendly garage they should be able to do this as a diagnostic computer reset for free.
  7. Sorry I didn't mean that literally - I was confusingly suggesting that everyone pile in the back for a listen because there's no room in the front - I'm driving after all.. Sorry to confuse the issue. Swapping wheels front to back might be worth a go. It's really difficult to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from. In the meantime, is there any more painful a noise than kerbing your alloys? Managed it at the rear yesterday - AAAAARGGGH!
  8. That's a good thought - but it's def not those - it's more of a deep rumbling, rather than a chafing noise.. it's now that I wish there was some way of piling us all into the back for a listen..
  9. No the noise is fairly constant - I've even switched off the engine and let it coast (on a safe road I might add!) and the noise is still there.
  10. Approx 93k - I'm hoping to god it's not something simple like a badger stuck in the wheelarch
  11. Yeah it's a GTI! But I run Kumhos on slightly bigger rims - but the noise has only become apparent in recent weeks..
  12. Does anyone have any opinions as to what could be making a kind of whub-whub-whub-whub noise at speed? I thought it might be dodgy wheel bearings but have checked out the wheels and there's no loose 'play'.. All tyres are in good nick and the wheels are all correctly balanced as far as I'm aware.. Any ideas? Thankyou
  13. Howdy Sounds like your sensor may have gone?
  14. Cheers! Another one for the to-do list..
