  1. Chaps and Chappesses, Don't get ripped off by VW. The problem you appear to have encountered is quite common on Polos and therefore it follows on Lupos and Arosas. Contact Euro Car Parts, give them your car model and year, and ask for a "door lock repair kit" . This essentially is made up of 4 or 5 pieces of items that form the door locking mechanism. Of these you may only want 1 or 2 bits, but it is handy to have all to hand. Next, remove and examine the lock mechanism carefully (would be handy if someone had an image of this) and take it apart ( PS make sure you don't withdraw the key from the barrel) - perhaps make a diagram if you have a poor memory. Fitting is the reverse of what you remove. How much will this cost? About £12 for the bits, and an hour of your time. However, it may cost a lot more of your patience - can't quantify that! PPS - just remembered - VW dealers sell these bits as well, but need a lot more explanation as to what you require.
  2. Fellow short Polo (Arosa/Lupo) owners etc. There is a previous post about a member who is expecting a new Lupo in Mexico - and for those of you interested in seeing what it looks like, follow this link http://www.vw.com.mx/CWE/estudio/Lupo/LUP_001HOME/ and then click on "Visita el Microsita" Don't forget to check out the other options such as the 360 view etc. Oh, I just remembered - you MUST check out the "Pensado por ti" in the image gallery - not only does it show you can now get three people in the back, but also THREE suitcases and a soft bag! Who says language is a barrier? I am sure we all understand what this car is all about! Happy browsing.
  3. Hi there, New member - joined today with a post. Own a 1998 1.0 Arosa currently on 48k, NO mods at all, almost all the toys - A/C, ABS, A/Bag, crank up and down seats, and yes, even a rear parcel shelf. (Joke? Original spec. it was an option!) Bought the car for a real bargain price last year at 37k miles, spent £150 sorting out a small dent, some scratches, couple of pry holes in the door A frame where some yobs had stuck a screwdriver in to try and wrench it open. A good service when I bought it, now done about 10k since then, had a minor service this year, Dist cap, arm and leads and a brake fluid change and thats it. PS - wifes car supposedly, but don't mention that.
  4. Hello, new member, 1998 Arosa 1.0 driver (since July 2003) - the best value for money car I have bought to date!!!!!! Those lucky enough to have AC - yes, you can use it to heat the car up quickly during the winter, as well as maintain cold air during the hot (and hotter?) summers we have. The best way to demist is to switch on the recirc button, switch the dial to screen or even between screen/feet , and full on the speed control with the a/c switched on. Trust me, I have left home many an early morning during the winter in my Arosa, as well as a variety of company cars from different manufacturers. By the way, once the car has warmed up, put the air back to fresh, and reduce the fan speed to your preffered level - practice makes perfect. TIP: do make sure your Pollen filter is regularly changed, as it reduces fresh air intake into the car, and can also make you nauseous if it is REALLY caked with rubbish etc. With regards A/C recharging - the rule is more you use the A/C, the better it is for the compressor, the gas etc. In fact, most manufacturers recommend you turn it up to full blast at least once a month for at least half an hour. This keeps the seals in good nick. Best practice is to get the gas checked by a reliable gas man if you notice the A/C isn't heating / cooling efficiently. Some gas men recommend inserting dye for about £15 plus especially once a car gets a bit older - useful, as it shows up any leaks. Pleased to be part of the Lupo/Arosa forum, and for those of you who have skimmed to the end of this post - sorry for the !!!!yawn!!!! reply.
